Affordable Ways to Spruce Up Your Kitchen

For most families, the kitchen is the heart of the home. It is the space where meals are prepared, conversations are had, and memories are created. The kitchen is also one of the most commonly used rooms in the entire house. From wear and tear on the countertops and cabinets to stains on the walls and damaged floors, your kitchen can start to look less appealing through the years. If you’re ready to give it a facelift but are afraid of how much it’ll cost, you will be pleased to know that you can actually transform your kitchen without going over budget. Check it out below.

New Flooring

With all the traffic in the kitchen, the floors tend to get damaged fairly quickly. If the tiles have started to peel up or look permanently dingy, you can improve them without spending too much. There are different types of flooring. Some, like laminate tiles, are very affordable, only costing a few cents per square foot. You can find tiles with intricate patterns including some that look like authentic wood or stone. Applying them is also easy which means you don’t have to hire an expert to do the work for you.

Upgrade the Cabinets

One of the first things you see when you step into a kitchen is the cabinets. They set the tone for the space and also provide storage for your food, seasonings, and dishes. If the cabinets are dated, damaged, or inefficient for storage, they can be replaced and you can opt for pre-assembled cabinets for easy installation. You can shop online for custom cabinets that suit the decor of the kitchen and fit in your budget. If funds are really tight you might instead opt to have your cabinets resurfaced, in which they recover the cabinet frames with wood veneers to update the look.

New Backsplash

The walls behind your sinks and stove seem to look dingy earlier than the rest of the kitchen. This is likely from the splashing of sauces, grease, water, soap, and other liquids used while cooking or cleaning. You can get a more clean appearance by adding a backsplash. These decorative tiles or stones are designed to protect the wall from splashes and can also add some character to your kitchen. The great thing about a backsplash is that it won’t cost you an arm and a leg. You can use leftover floor tiles, purchase a few wall tiles, break up a stone and make a mosaic, or even apply sheets of metal to the wall.

A Fresh Coat of Paint

You’d be surprised how something as inexpensive as a gallon of paint can make your kitchen look like it’s brand new. To give the space a quick and affordable makeover, choose a new paint color that complements the floor and cabinets. For smaller spaces, try to stick to brighter colors to make the room appear bigger. If you have an open concept home, you’ll also want to consider the decor around the house when choosing a paint color. You don’t want to choose an oddball color that won’t tie into the rest of the decor.

New Appliances

An old stove or outdated refrigerator can bring down the overall appeal of your kitchen. Older appliances also require more energy to run efficiently which raises the energy costs. To kill two birds with one stone, you can invest in new, more efficient appliances. A stainless steel stove and refrigerator, for example, can modernize the space and reduce energy expenses. It can also make meal prepping a lot more convenient with modern technology like dual ovens, temperature control stove burners and more.

Kitchens are the most utilized rooms in a family home. When it no longer looks or performs up to par, it can make daily routines like preparing meals challenging. If you’ve lived in your home for awhile and have taken notice to your outdated kitchen, there are some changes you can make. Many of the kitchen remodel ideas listed above are affordable and easy to complete on your own reducing the cost of hiring a professional. With careful research and a set budget, you can find flooring, paint, backsplashes, and appliances to create a more efficient harmonious kitchen fit for your family.

Upgrade the faucet
Last but not the least, upgrading your old leaky or rusted faucet doesn’t just spruce up the kitchen but adds to the utility as well. With a touchless faucet, you’re going to leave most visitors in awe. Plus, it’s also easy to use and a healthier choice (no touching, you see). And with a pulldown or pullout faucet cleaning veggies or even the countertop becomes a breeze. But to get these benefits, just any model or brand won’t cut it. To top it all off, these latest kitchen faucets also help save water as water pressure can be better controlled. So you not only save a few bucks on the water bill but get to be part of the save environment bandwagon as well.
