Don’t Know Why Your Child is Sick? 3 Reasons You’ve Never Considered

Having a child means constantly being worried about their health, like not knowing whether a cough could be serious or just a one-time event. It’s not always easy to know what’s causing the problem. Taking your child to the doctor can determine what the cause of the problem is in their body, but you still might not know why they got sick in the first place.

It’s possible there could be an ongoing irritant in their daily lives. If a healthy child starts to experience constant sickness, it means it’s time to examine their surroundings.

There are so many variables in the environment that could make your child sick. Often products in the home are the culprits. Here are a few not so obvious problems that might be making your child sick without you even knowing it.

  • The Air in Your House

Sometimes danger can be lurking invisibly where you spend most of your time. Your home isn’t a safe zone from bacteria and toxic substances that your child could inhale.

It’s important to check the air quality of not only your house, but also your neighbourhood. Examining the air quality of the area where your child frequents helps you determine whether or not the local pollution is causing issues for your child.

Most houses in Sydney have gas detectors that can help you determine whether or not the air in your home is being tainted by dangerous gases. A fixed gas detector can help with those issues.

  • The Water at the Beach

For kids that are lucky enough to live near a beach, the ocean is a great place to spend weekends and holidays with children that love the outdoors. The beach allows them to connect with wildlife and have fun in nature. But the ocean is also mysterious. It’s home to bacteria and other foreign agents in the water that we don’t know about.

Your children will get increased immune system resistance if exposed to certain amounts of bacteria but too much will easily make them ill. Make sure to monitor how long your kids go into the ocean. After they swim, it’s important to have them take showers and wash any cuts or open wounds that they have.

  • New Foods

Exposing your children to new foods that they’ve never eaten before is a great way to give them a multicultural experience. But these foods could also be difficult for your children to deal with at first. This is because they aren’t used to eating the spices and combinations. They could get a stomachache or diarrhea when being exposed to new foods.

But this doesn’t mean that it they can’t experience new foods. Giving them new dishes to try is important for their growth into adulthood. Give them food in small doses and see how they react. If they get small doses regularly they will be less likely to get sick from the food.

You Can’t Ever Be Too Careful

The world is a large place full of things that we can’t even begin to comprehend. Science and medicine have come so far in helping us be prepared for bacteria and viruses. We know so many things that we didn’t know before science and that helps with curing whatever ails your child. But, this doesn’t mean we know everything.

Sometimes the cause of why your child won’t stop coughing or has bad stomach cramps is as simple as the air in the house or the water in the ocean. Even if they’re healthy, it always pays off to check out the house, backyard, school, and environments your children frequent to make sure they’re not encountering any toxins that might harm them.

  • For the longest time I thought that we were safe in these modern times, but every flu season makes me nervous! Thankfully my child rarely gets sick!

One thing in the article that I would do differently, though, is avoiding swimming with any open wounds. The CDC recommends to either cover it with a waterproof bandage or to wait until it has scabbed over. Our family has dealt with long-term open wounds, and keeping them clean and dry is the number one rule. It’s SO much better to be safe than sorry in this instance.
