Why You Should Make Bowling Part of Your Family Culture

Bowling is one of those fun activities that you can never outgrow. It knows no ages or social status; it is something for the whole family and people from all walks of life to enjoy. If you are looking for a family culture to start or one more to add, if it’s not already on the list, you should make bowling a tradition. It is a fun way to get kids moving but also teach them a thing or two.

Three life lessons from bowling

Patience: When you are playing in a large group, it takes a long while for your turn to reach. Bowling is, therefore, a subtle way to teach children that patience is vital. In case they throw a tantrum that their turn is taking too long, walk them through the importance of waiting their turn and how everyone deserves to enjoy their turn as they did. Once it dawns on them, they will join right along in the jokes for those hitting the gutters and celebrating strikes.

Teamwork is fun: Following up on the above, you can choose to turn bowling into a competitive sport. It will teach the little one to cheer on teammates. It will also show them the importance of pulling their weight to win. Even when they lose, talk them through their emotions, especially if they are negative. It is a perfect opportunity to instill a life lesson for whatever they choose to pursue in life, whether in corporate law or a sports manager.

Exercise doesn’t have to feel like torture: some children are not naturally inclined to enjoy sports. Bowling then gives them a chance to get moving. Your child will likely enjoy it; that is information you want to save for later. When it comes to nudging them toward picking a sport, remind them of bowling and ask them to find something they can do that brings about a similar feeling. It will be hard to argue with that! Don’t be surprised if they gravitate toward something that requires excellent posture and hand-eye coordination.

Take away

We live in times where kids are glued to their screens. With bowling, it gets them out of the house and forces them to be present. Your children and other family members might be a bit cheeky so employ a no phones policy when bowling. It will be worth it as you watch everyone come alive and have fun.
