Baked Goods You Can Do at Home

Baking from home is quite an exciting activity and home offers a conducive environment to go about baking. Home baking is healthy as you are careful of how you handle your kitchen. Freshness is maintained as the baked goods are likely to be consumed immediately. As baked goods gain popularity, the rate of consumption of these products is high. There are different reasons why people would prefer to bake from home: for fun, for enjoyment, for practice, and for business purposes. Important equipment for baking includes a mixer for mixing ingredients, a refrigerator to keep ingredients fresh, a convection oven for even baking, and cooling racks to properly cool baked goods. A variety of snacks can be baked from home, some of which include bread, biscuits, pies, cookies, cupcakes, cakes, muffins, and pastries. I’ll take you through some items that you can easily bake from the comfort of your home, and probably sell them to make some cash on the side.

Muffins

Nothing is better for breakfast with a cup of tea or coffee combined with some home-baked mouth watering muffins. Needless to mention, there are many different types of muffins, some of the most delicious ones include banana bread muffins, blueberry muffins, pecan, date, raising, whole wheat, and bacon muffins, just to name a few. The kind of muffins you make largely depends on the ingredients. Here’s a recipe to make banana muffins.

Ingredients: flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, vegetable oil, 1 egg, vanilla extract, medium ripe bananas.

Directions:

  • Combine your dry ingredients in a large bowl
  • Take another bowl and mash your bananas in there
  • Add your egg into the banana bowl along with the oil and vanilla extract and mix well
  • Take your muffin papers and half-fill each
  • Bake your muffins at 375 degrees for about 20 minutes
  • Cool your baked muffins for about 10 minutes, remove them from the pan and cool the further appropriately

Biscuits

Biscuits are amazing, especially when taken with refreshments such as tea, coffee, juice, and other beverages. Here’s how to make some good biscuits from home.

Ingredients: flour, baking powder, margarine, milk

Directions:

  • Cream the margarine
  • Add sugar and continue to cream until mixture is fine
  • Add flour mixed with baking powder
  • Stir continuously while alternating with the milk and get the required texture
  • Cut into appropriate shapes and bake for 5-7 minutes

Cookies

Just like biscuits, cookies are another example of fine tasties you can do at home. Here’s how to make some cookies.  

Ingredients: flour, sugar, baking powder, egg, and butter

Directions:

  • Cream butter/margarine
  • Add sugar and continue creaming to attain fluffy texture
  • Add eggs, stir to mix well
  • Using a mixer, stir flour continuously to attain the required dough
  • Refrigerate the dough for 30 -45 minutes
  • Using a rolling pin spread the refrigerated dough
  • Cut the required shapes and bake for 5 minutes

Cakes (plain)

Everybody loves cake, and here’s how to bake some fine cakes.

Ingredients: sieved flour- 200g, margarine 75g, sugar 75g, baking powder 12g, half a cup of milk, eggs (beaten 2-4)

Directions:

  • Cream margarine
  • Add sugar and continue creaming until the texture is soft
  • Add beaten eggs and continue to stir to mix well
  • Add flour while using a serving spoon/mixer alternating with milk in order to get the required consistency
  • Put the dough in a greased and dusted baking tin and bake for 45 minutes

Bread

There are many types of bread but here is an example recipe you can use to make some sweet-tasting bread.

Ingredients: bread flour, salt, sugar, yeast

Directions:

  • Add a pinch of salt the flour
  • Add yeast and a pinch of sugar to some water, stir and leave for 5 minutes
  • Add the water to the flour and mix to make a smooth elastic dough
  • Refrigerate the dough for two hours
  • Split the dough into considerable sizes and bake for 30 minutes

Requirements for A Home Baking Business:

If you intend to start a home baking business, it is highly important to consider the requirements and the baking business regulations applicable in your state or country. In this case, some are stricter than others and you should abide by them. Here are some of the most common requirements:

  • A business license that is not expensive to make your business official
  • A health certificate for your kitchen after its inspection
  • Baking equipment such as measuring equipment, and mixing equipment
  • Baking skills for high-quality products

When starting to bake from home, your clients will probably be your friends, family, and colleagues, but along the way, your customer base will increase. It is imperative to get a website and have a social media profile with which you can advertise your creations. Baking from whatever place can be labor-intensive, but working from home has numerous benefits. Out of passion and the love of baking, many began baking from home and eventually turned it into a business. Baked goods are fast moving consumer goods as a result of high consumption, which is sometimes influenced by holidays and important days such as weddings and birthdays. Such opportunities should be greatly utilized, whether as a hobby, a side job or full-time employment.
