Flying, jumping, riding, singing and hanging are jump some of the things you’ll see at the Cirque du Soleil VOLTA show. I got the chance to bring my family to the newest show in Chicago and it was amazing, definitely family friendly without the cheesy circus feeling.
If you have never been to a Cirque du Soleil show you will certainly be in for a treat and if you have, you’ll be amazed at how they transform traditional acts into a whole new experience. We have seen quite a few Cirque du Soleil shows and I am always impressed and amazed.
VOLTA is a show about discovery. It is inspired in part by the culture of street sports and celebrating a world where technology often isolates people from one another. It is all about being true to oneself, fulfilling one’s true potential, and recognizing one’s own power to make it possible. It features a boy who is different and how he grows and finds himself amongst the judgment of others.
The name VOLTA refers to a sudden about-face, a change in emotion or idea often used in poetry. It also speaks to the jolt of energy delivered through the show.
The show is under its own big top tent and its amazing how they can do all that they do under the small tent. VOLTA weaves acrobatics along with singing and instruments.
My kids (ages 7, 10 and 12) all loved the show and couldn’t stop talking about it, which is saying a lot since my kids are not entertained very easily. There is just so much going on constantly in the show.
VOLTA runs about 2.5 hours with a 25-minute intermission. Do make sure too to bring money for parking and snacks. Here in Chicago, it was pretty pricey for both.
VOLTA is Cirque du Soleil’s 41st original production since 1984, and its 18th show presented under the Big Top. The company has brought wonder and delight to more than 190 million spectators in more than 450 cities on six continents. Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group has close to 4,000 employees, including 1,400 performing artists from close to 60 different countries.
