Brands Embracing the Flexible Packaging Trend

Smart packaging protects goods and is vital to establishing a brand as reliable. Using the most innovative, consumer-friendly packaging demonstrates an ability to keep up with advancements in the industry. 80% of brand owners say that they feel packaging impacts their brand’s image and value.

Big Name Brands Using Pouches

Snack food packaging is one area where flexible packaging stands out. Major brands have embraced stand up pouches as a new, convenient way to deliver their products to consumers. Tree Top has an applesauce pouch marketed to elementary school children, and it comes in a transparent pouch form. Pouches offer new design potential for transparent packaging and transparent windows. Capri Sun’s famous juice pouch added a spout, and managed to expand their appeal from toddlers and elementary schoolers all the way to teenagers with that packaging switch.

Customer Preferences and Requests

Research suggests that these brands are responding to customer’s needs and desires for packaging. According to a survey conducted by the Flexible Packaging Association, 71% of Americans say they prefer flexible packaging. The same survey reports that 60% of consumers say that they are willing to pay more for products that include packaging benefits such as resealable, easy to open and easy to store bags. Resealable products are the most desired, out of those top three features.  For beef jerky packaging and similar products, a resealable opening is expected and makes a huge improvement to freshness and enjoyment.

Flexible Food Packaging

For reduced transportation cost and reduced production cost, these brands are choosing flexible packaging. A majority of brand owners who made the switch reported an improvement in sales and lower production costs. Pouches have an efficient product-to-package ratio that allows for more products at a time to fit into trucks for shipping. Options like ePac frozen food pouches are durable while still reducing package weight and size.

Flexible packaging, especially snack food packaging, reflects current trends and is one of the best options to meet consumers’ needs and desires. It is appealing on the shelf and offers innovative features that improve freshness and ease of shipping.
