5 things I Thought About Dumbo

I received product/compensation in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.

Dumbo

In “Dumbo,” struggling circus owner Max Medici enlists former star Holt Farrier and his children to care for a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him a laughingstock. But when they discover that Dumbo can fly, the circus makes an incredible comeback, attracting persuasive but sinister entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere, who recruits the peculiar pachyderm for his newest, spectacular, larger-than-life entertainment venture, Dreamland.

First off I was not sure how Disney could remake the animated Dumbo movie. I wasn’t sure how they could re-create everything they did. I also want to add that I have not seen the animated Dumbo in a long time so I am not sure if it follows the same storyline but I assume it does. There are changes but Dumbo is still Dumbo.

Here are 5 things I thought about Dumbo:

  • The computer animation is amazing. The animals and backgrounds that are computer animated all look so real. I am amazed too the actors and actresses were able to act around objects not really there, like the kids playing with Dumbo but obviously Dumbo was not there.
  • Seeing real people be cruel to Dumbo instead of animated people really shows how mean and rude real people really can be – my kids were so mad at the people that made fun and hurt Dumbo.
  • I love how they had a family helping Dumbo – of course since its Disney, one of the parents was dead. The movie emphasized families working together, both families from blood and not blood.
  • I loved how it showed that even though people are different that they are still people. The movie had “circus freaks” but they were all great people who supported each other.
  • The movie showed how money and power is not everything which is such an important lesson to teach and see.

Honestly, I think I like the movie better than the animated version but I have plans to watch the animated version again once I get my hands on it. I do remember the animated version had things in it like Dumbo getting drunk which this new one obviously didn’t have because that wouldn’t be appropriate today.

As far as watching the movie goes, definitely give it a chance like I did. I grew up with the animated version and every time they remake them in a live version, I am skeptical. How can you remake a classic? I feel like while they did remake Dumbo, it is a movie on its own you can watch without knowing anything about Dumbo.
