3 Ways to Childproof Your Doors

As a parent, one of the most concerning things about bringing your child home from the hospital is ensuring their safety. Mundane everyday objects that seem harmless to you could be life-threatening for babies. As your child grows older and starts to crawl or walk, they can access different parts of your house, and you might not always be there to make sure that they are safe. In such cases, parents can do a few things. They can hire nannies to look after their kids, they can put up baby monitors to hear and see what their kids are doing, or they can lock up the things that might be dangerous, and restrict certain areas of the house by using childproofing.

Childproofing is a method of safety which restricts a child’s movement to certain areas of the house, or stops them from opening certain household appliances such as a refrigerator or an oven etc. Usually, childproofing means applying the use of a few gadgets that make it difficult for children to open doors or lids etc. Amongst all childproofing techniques, the most efficient is childproofing your doors. When buying accessories for your doors, try always to buy those that are compatible with childproofing gadgets. Online Door Store has a wide variety of such door accessories.

Here are three tips to help you childproof your doors and keep your children safe:

Plastic door knob covers

Regular round doorknobs are extremely easy to use, and children often learn to open doors at a very young age. One way to childproof your door is to use a plastic doorknob cover. It is made up of two different pieces which are wrapped together over the real doorknob, and snap together around it. It can be removed by pushing both of the side buttons together. To open the door, the pieces need to be pressed down, or the real doorknob has to be grabbed through the side cutouts in the plastic cover. Generally, for a smaller hand with less dexterity, these plastic covers are impossible to get through.

Using a top door lock

A top door lock requires you to drill a small hole in the door frame and place a bolt that shuts in the latch to close the door. Only adults and young children over a certain age and height can access this latch and can bolt the door shut or open it. Even if your child learns to use the childproofing gadgets, this will ensure that they cannot open the door at all.

Door lever lock

A door lever lock is a very simple object that is placed on the handle in a way that the two handles of the gadget limit the movement and rotation of the lever. It is also easy to attach to the door. All you need to do is peel off the sticker and stick the gadget onto the door. Kids cannot open lever doors because this gadget requires ability to operate.
