5 Facts About Fortnite

Okay so my boys are hooked on Fortnite and they talk about it constantly. Since I have been totally clueless, I figure it is time to learn something, anything really, about Fortnite. I turned to the Internet of course, since everything and anything can be found on the Internet. Costume Supercenter actually came out with a list of 5 Facts About Fortnite which will help you surprise your kids with your Fortnite knowledge.

Check out 5 Facts About Fortnite:

  • The name Fortnite is a pun. The hardest mode challenges players to survive for two weeks also known as a fortnight (in game time). The game also involves building bases, or forts so the name comes full circle.
  • Fortnite was first announced by Epic Games in 20117 but due to delays, it wasn’t released until July 2017. The company announced that they had sold over 500,000 digital copies in the first month. That number exceeded one million just one month later.
  • Speaking of sales, Fortnite made an estimated one million dollars from mobile users within the first three days that in-app purchases were available. While the overall amount that Epic Games has made with Fortnite is unknown, it was reported that they earned $126 million in February 2018 alone.
  • Fortnite Battle Royale was inspired by the 2000 Japanese film, Battle Royale that also inspired The Hunger Games series, in the wake of the success of Steam’s PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. The gameplay involves up to 100 players who are dropped into a randomly generated map to find weapons and resources while attempting to survive to be the last player standing.
  • The celebratory dances that players’ avatars can perform in Fortnite are getting a lot of press. Players of all ages are having fun with the dances in real life. A few major league sports players have been seen celebrating on the field with some Fortnite signature moves. However, those signature moves might not be so signature. Lawsuits were filed by Brooklyn rapper 2 Milly, “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” star Alfonso Ribeiro and Instagram’s “Backpack Kid” against Epic Games for using their trademark dance moves without permission.
