Best New Music Technology for Your Kids

One of the best things you can do for your children is foster a love of music starting at a young age. Developing the ability to play a musical instrument is not only a great skill, but music can help your child’s brain grow. Luckily, it’s now easier than ever before to introduce your kids to music thanks to some great technology. Below are some technology apps you can download that are perfect for kids of all ages.

Spotify

Spotify is a music streaming service that contains millions of songs. You can either use the program for free and listen to advertisements or pay a few dollars per month for no interruptions. On the service is practically every song you can think of, but it gets better. Spotify has recently launched a separate program called Spotify Kids. This app has tons of music specifically for kids, so that you don’t have to worry about your children accidentally stumbling upon more adult music. If you’re looking for a great music streaming service that your kids can use, definitely consider downloading Spotify Kids.

Audible Genius

Audible Genius provides online music lessons for kids and adults of all ages. It turns learning music into a game, teaching users about music theory and how to train your ear. Through this app you’ll learn things like how to build drum patterns, how chord progressions work, and how to train your ear. If standard music lessons aren’t working for your kids, try out this app to see if the gamification helps them to enjoy the process more.

Flowkey

Flowkey is another online music lesson tutor. Flowkey is designed specifically for piano lessons, as this is one of the easiest instruments to learn online. With Flowkey you can play along with your keyboard or piano at home, and it will tell you if you’re playing the right notes. You can even use Flowkey without a keyboard or piano at home if you just want to learn more about the theory. Learning the piano is a great introduction into music, as it is one of the easier instruments to learn. With Flowkey you don’t have to worry about taking your kid over to lessons, it’s all on your schedule.

Yousician

This is another app that can teach you how to play instruments. Yousician is like Flowkey in that it listens to what you are playing and corrects you when you make a mistake. However, unlike Flowkey, Yousician works for several different kinds of instruments, including piano, guitar and ukulele. Yousician offers a free plan in which you can get 30 minutes of training each day, or you can pay for a premium membership and get unlimited lessons. Yousician is available across multiple devices and is free to download and try out.

Toca Dance

What’s music without a little dancing? Toca Dance is an app for Apple devices that allows your child to choreograph their own dance routines. It comes with all sorts of different characters, costumes and dance moves. Your child will love trying out the different combinations and seeing what kind of routine they can create. If your child is more into dancing than playing instruments, this app is a great way to foster that creativity and allow them to create their own dances.

Crayola DJ

Finally, Crayola DJ could help you child become the next great DJ. With this app, available for both Android and Apple devices, you can mix loops and add in fun beats to create new songs. It comes with load tracks across multiple genres, including pop, rock and hip-hop. It even comes with a game in which you perform your new songs for an audience and earn points. A Parents’ Choice Fun Stuff Award Winner, this app will keep your kids busy for hours while they learn about what it takes to create the world’s next catchy song.

Making the Most of Technology

There are a ton of apps out there that can introduce your children to music. Learning a musical instrument is a lifelong skill and one that’s easier to develop at a young age. And even if they don’t learn how to play something, simply developing an appreciation for music will help their minds grow as they get older. So, instead of letting your kids play random games on your phone, give them an app that will allow them to explore their creativity and discover new songs. The above list is a great place to start, but with some searching you should have no trouble finding plenty of alternatives that fit your needs.
