CBD and Depression: Can It Help You Ease Sadness?

CBD is a natural compound known as cannabidiol. This is one of the components found in cannabis, hemp, or a marijuana plant. The CBD that’s sold in dispensaries, however, is entirely safe to use. It doesn’t have any psychoactive components in it. This is processed to not include any dose of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is the component in marijuana that’s addictive and psychoactive.

CBD has seen a rise in popularity over the recent years because of its effectivity as claimed by numerous studies, as well as people who have used it. One of the benefits of CBD is that can be good for depression, as it effectively eases many of the symptoms associated with depression. For moms, you know that this mental health issue can be very common, especially with the never-ending list of responsibilities that have to be done. With CBD, you can ease depressive symptoms, and help you feel a sense of calm and well-being.

1. It Counters Any Anxious Feelings

Anxiety is prevalent in people who have depression. Their thoughts are always filled with nerve-wracking emotions that disrupt their ability to think clearly and thoroughly. When you’re depressed, you’re anxious about almost anything. It’s as if your mind is continually thinking about a future that’s filled with self-doubt and worry. This makes it very difficult for you to relax. Even moms can experience this, primarily because of the pressure they may experience in having so many responsibilities that involve juggling household chores, parenting, and perhaps even their career.

When you take in CBD, you can relax and calm down better. The cannabinoids interact with the endocannabinoid system in the body through its various receptors. One of its effects is that it increases the levels of serotonin in your body. People with depression and anxiety usually have deficient levels of serotonin. When you take in CBD, you’re able to increase your level of serotonin, which means that you’re less anxious and more relaxed. You get to have a higher sense of peace

2. It Helps You Sleep Better

During the times that you’re sad and depressed, sleep can also come by very hard. You experience difficulty falling asleep and staying asleep. This results from all the thoughts that are running through your mind. When you take in CBD, your body has a more balanced state, also known as homeostasis. This is very important to note, as insomnia, or the difficulty of sleeping well, results from the following factors:

  • Mental health disorders such as depression, overwhelming stress and sadness, and anxiety
  • Caffeine consumed late in the day
  • Other medication that affects your sleep and wake cycles
  • Physical conditions such as pain

CBD helps you sleep better because it goes to the root of your inability to sleep. This happens by inducing your body to have a balanced state, as mentioned.

3. It Has Little To No Side Effects

When a person is experiencing depression and constant sadness, one of the very first remedies to counter this is a prescription for antidepressants. But the negative thing about antidepressants is that it takes weeks before it starts to show positive results and changes in your body. This means that you have to take in a lot of antidepressants before it starts to take effect.

With synthetic medicines, it’s effortless for you to become dependent on them. In the process of developing this dependency, you’ll also get to experience the adverse side effects that it brings. For instance, taking antidepressants can result in:

  • Agitation
  • Mood swings
  • Insomnia
  • Sexual dysfunction

Looking at these symptoms, it’s easy to conclude that these may even result in more sadness. It doesn’t help you relax better, nor does it also solve the root of your depression. With CBD, the opposite is true. You experience little to no side effects, as it’s a very natural form of medication.

The only possible side effects that anyone can have with CBD are dry mouth, fatigue, and diarrhea. However, these are also very minimal and rare. Another thing you should be aware of is poor-quality CBD products as these can contain additional ingredients that are harmful and have more side effects. To prevent this, ensure the CBD you take has been tested by a third-party laboratory and has a certificate of analysis. An example of a brand with such a certificate on their products is Medterra CBD.

4. It’s Very Easy To Use

Antidepressants usually come in pill form. Unfortunately, many others have an aversion to taking pills. This is one of the reasons why, in the long run, some of the patients prescribed with antidepressants don’t like to continue taking it. With CBD, this problem is solved, as it’s very easy to consume. It can counter depression and sadness, and it is versatile in the way you can apply it. You don’t have to limit yourself only to its pill form.

The manner of applying CBD include the following:

  • Topical: This is possible through creams, lotions, massage oils, and gels. All you have to do is to use it directly on your skin. The skin absorbs the CBD, and then it takes effect. If you’ve got oils and creams, you can apply this, too, on your furry friends, like your dogs and cats.
  • Oral: This can come in tinctures, oils, pills, tablets, and sprays. You can take them directly, or also mix it with other drinks and food, such as coffee and brownies.
  • Vaping: This works by vaping in the CBD oil through a vape or e-cigarette.
  • Edible: This is in the form of gummies, candies, and other treats.

Through this wide array of options, CBD can indeed become a natural happy pill.

Being a mom is no walk in the park. Responsibilities are high, and expectations can mount even higher. While it may be second nature to you to take care and nurture other people, especially your kids, you should also remember to take care of your own mental health and well-being.

Proponents and loyal consumers of cannabis have been very positive about the benefits that CBD can bring. Aside from improving your physical health, CBD can also bring emotional and psychological benefits. Especially for those suffering from depressive tendencies, CBD has effectively been successful in fostering a lighter and happier mood. CBD is, indeed, one of the best natural and non-psychoactive antidepressant remedies for those who need it.
