Newbies Guide to RV Vacations

So if you are a newbie to RV vacations you will no doubt have an idea of what they are all about, but you’ll find there are quite a few things that it is good to learn and those of us who are a bit more experienced can guide your hand there. Look at this guide, not as one that is telling you what to do rather just giving some examples of things that we have found helpful over the years.

Types of Places to Go

Quite simply put you can go anywhere. But more specifically there are some great examples of where it is great to take your RV. National parks are, of course, a classic but for good reason, if you can take your accommodation with you then all your outdoor gear comes as well and this opens the experience up for mountain biking, hiking, rafting, or fishing and hunting, just whatever you like to do. Other examples include large events like concerts or music festivals.

Eating

While you may be used to almost exclusively eating at restaurants and café’s but touring in an RV gives you so many more options. You, of course, will have a fully functional kitchen at your fingertips and can cook just the way you do at home. There is also the option of a barbeque or even a camp-fire if you are looking for the real outdoors experience.

What Type of RV to Get

Here is the big question and we are getting to the crux of the matter with this one. The RV and camper community really falls into 2 categories here, they are as follows. Some value size, comfort and mod-cons over everything else, these are the folks who stump for the big powerful RVs, basically miniature apartments on wheels. The others like the smaller, hipper, more boutique camper vans and these come in such a fascinating variety of sizes, styles and indeed colors, you can even convert an old vehicle, which is challenging but with some good advice, perfectly achievable. Regardless of what you choose, make sure that you figure out what it’ll cost. Being able to estimate RV payments that you’ll be making is pretty essential. You don’t want your beloved vehicle to end up draining your bank account.

Where to Stay

You would think you can stay anywhere being in a home on wheels? Well, this all depends on where you are in the country. There are various places, cities, and states that require you to stay in designated and dedicated campsites. Also, you need to be respectful of not trespassing on private property either. But the good news is that most places have an abundance of parks you can stay in, even in places you wouldn’t think of such as these family-friendly camper grounds in Las Vegas.

Vehicle Maintenance

It’s important to keep on top of vehicle maintenance on any vehicle, but especially on campers as they are so infrequently used at times. All the normal checks need to be done like oil and coolant, tires, etc. Even checking for wheels rusting up over winter. You can even take a course specifically for camper maintenance such as this VW course.
