9 Ways To Keep Your Kids Healthy

As parents, we do all that we can to ensure that our children are happy and healthy at all times. The trouble with children is that they have a tendency to pick up every bug and cough going, and when they pick those up, they spread them to the whole family – ick! Children are icky, germ-filled little creatures, and it’s up to us to ensure that they are as healthy as possible.

Of course, we cannot protect our kids from every bug going, but with the right management of what they consume and where they go, how they respond around other sneezing children, and how they dress for the weather, we can protect them better. For example, we all know that children should eat foods that are colorful to help them to consume vitamins and minerals that build their immune systems.

We also know that with the Berkey test results showing that the impurities in the water can be eradicated with the right filters, we can give our children a better shot at avoiding unnecessary germs. It’s things like this that can help us to make the best decisions for our children and their health. With that in mind, let’s check out nine ways that we can keep our children as healthy as possible.

Tip 1: Hand Wash Help

Children are notoriously bad for licking the dirt off their hands or wiping it into their clothes and continuing on with their day. Instilling proper hand washing habits into your children from an early age is vital. You’ll prevent the spread of illness in your house and in their classroom. They should be washing hands after the toilet, before food and after they blow their noses. When you do this, you reduce their risk of getting sick, and you reduce the risk of them passing illnesses to their school. It would be best if you also modeled these habits, but don’t overdo it with too much hand gel or hand washing. We do need SOME germs, and too much of it in between the necessary times to do it can expose your kids to other bacteria with nothing to fight them off.

Tip 2: Family Immune Systems

The aim is to keep the kids healthy and ward off illness that inevitably occurs during the school year. As a family, you need to work on improving your immunity. You can do this by ensuring that you all get enough sleep, that a healthy diet is maintained and encouraged and managing stress. You should find time for you all to laugh, minimize the number of infections and colds with good habits with tissue disposal and hand washing, and you should also invest in a good antibacterial cleaner. The moments a sneeze isn’t caught doesn’t have to be detrimental to your health as long as it’s cleaned up properly.

Tip 3: Healthy Habit Education

Children go to school, and they share toys and cups, forks, and bottles of drinks. It’s essential to impart to your children the importance of not sharing these things with other children. Germs love to manifest in saliva, and when children are sharing bottles, they can pass colds like passing the parcel at a party. It’s the same where you teach your children not to share their hair brushes; head lice are not pleasant to deal with! When you teach your child how to act healthily, you can avoid bad colds and stomach bugs, flu, and head lice!

Tip 4: Rock-A-Bye, Family

Sleep is so crucial for health. It’s not just about relaxing and recharging the batteries, but all your healing in your body occurs while you sleep. Sleep plays the most significant part of the emotional and physical health of your child than anything else. It plays a role in how well they concentrate in school, and it’s why you have to have a bedtime for your children. Children need enough sleep to function, and it’s up to you to enforce it!

Tip 5: Mental Health Counts

There is a lot of pressure on children today. Social stress, homework pressure, exam pressure – it can be a lot for them to bear on their shoulders. Ensuring their minds are healthy is just as important as anything else, which is why you need to learn the symptoms of stress in children so that you can pick up on any issues as they occur. Managing their anxiety is as vital as managing your own.

Tip 6: Start The Day Right

Breakfast for a child is the most important meal of the day. They need slow-release carbohydrates and proteins as well as something sweet and fruity to get the day going perfectly. You can play a big part here and ensure that they are eating a good, balanced breakfast before they go to school every day. Check out some exciting breakfast ideas!

Tip 7: A Healthy Lunch

If your children are eating a hot meal at school, it’s easy for them to pick up fast foods and convenience options instead of the healthier ones. However, with the right lunch packed in a box and sent to school with them, you can make it fun, colorful, and healthy all at the same time. Lunch boosts them for the afternoon, so it’s not something to forget.

Tip 8: School Bag Choices

Your child is going to be lugging around a heavy backpack for a long time. The best thing that you can do is ensure that they are wearing the right one. Preventing back problems when they’re young will ensure that they don’t suffer pain and back issues in later life.

Tip 9: Learn About Head Lice

Literal bugs in schools include worms and head lice and head lice are a common problem among school children. The close contact in schools spreads them quickly, which means that you need to learn the tools for prevention. Once you understand how to get rid of them, you can keep them away from your children for good.
