Practical Gift Ideas For Various Wintery Occasions

There are some people and some events, that has always been better suited to the colder months. During winter, the way we dress, eat, travel and enjoy life, dramatically changes. Unlike any other season, winter is full of impediments. It’s cold everywhere you go. The roads are icy and dangerous. You automatically have less range of movement because of the number of layers you’re having to put on. Winter is also a fantastic time to enjoy nature if you’re the hardy type of person. It’s a brilliant time to enjoy the landscape because a land covered with inches of snow is just more beautiful to roam around in. So whatever the occasion is, you must be ready to express your creativity and cunning eye for giving wintery gifts. It’s thoughtful to give people gifts that they can use right now and especially for the next 3 or so months of this chilly weather.

Your child’s birthday

Your son or daughter was born between January and March. They were born in the winter months and thus, they will perhaps be more accustomed to the cold cheer. Essentially, even though the weather might be cold and miserable, they will always be full of cheer because they know their birthday is coming up. Nobody is going to celebrate their birthday with a frown on their face just because of a little snow. So what could you give your son or daughter that would make their life so much better for this time of year?

For your daughter, this Pour Moi Lazy Days pajama set would do nicely. Many people will sleep with a thin layer of clothing or barely any at all. However in winter, the fewer layers we wear to bed, the colder we feel. Thus we tend to overdress as initially we feel warm but eventually, we feel too hot in bed. So a pajama set specially designed for winter would feel just right. You have just enough protection from the cold, but it fits loose, has a smooth but warming 100% viscose material and has a winter-inspired snowy design.

For your son, something a little more practical and less leisure is perhaps the better route. As it’s gone past Christmas, it’s the perfect time to be looking around for winter coats and jackets. However, not all jackets are created equal for winter. Thus, you should look for these styles of jackets only; parka, aviator, overcoat, peacoat and puffer jacket. A Jack Wills Bickmoor navy peacoat is something you can’t go wrong with. It’s a classic youthful design, with a streamlined body for unrestricted movement. It’s also 55% wool, 35% polyester and 10% viscose, so it’s warm yet built to last.

Born in snowfall

If you’re headed to a baby shower sometime soon, you need to drop all standard gift ideas. During the winter, the newborn baby is going to be feeling the chill more than anyone else. Thus, you rather than giving the happy parents something that they can only use months and months down the line, give them something a little more usable for the current temperature.

A fleece baby romper will definitely keep the newborn child warm. The best part is that the romper style covers the head too which is important as many newborn babies don’t grow sufficient hair until at least 6 months. The romper is designed like a teddy bear, so it has cute little ears on top of the hood. It gives the baby a sense of safety, being wrapped in a warm fleece with his or her feet encapsulated. The outside is made out of 100% polyester so it’s quite ‘baby proof’, but the inside is 100% cotton which will be less irritating on sensitive skin.

Soft cotton socks are a fabulous idea for a newborn baby. The extremities of a newborn child are always going to be the most difficult places to keep warm for the body. Since the hands and head are much closer to the heart, they stay warmer than the feet. So, consider giving 100% cotton socks to the parents so they don’t have to worry about their baby crying at night because the winter chill is biting their son or daughter’s feet. Avoid wool as this can be overly warming and irritating to very sensitive skin.

A winter anniversary

Whether you’re a dating couple or a married couple, winter anniversaries are always interesting. They really challenge you to come up with fantastic yet feasible ideas to celebrate your love for one another. Unlike the other seasons, winter is hampering and thus, you do need to make extra plans. You’re at the mercy of the weather gods and the ice queen is rarely forgiving. Thus, consider such plans that are dedicated and gifts that make sense with the world around you.

Making something special with your hands is a gift idea that never goes out of style. However, making something together, trying something new as a couple, can be done in so many ways during winter anniversaries. Couple’s ice sculpting is a challenge but the reward is immeasurable. You can select the kind of statue you wish to carve out of a block of ice and the instructor will show you how you can achieve it, step by step. Once you have the basics down, as a couple, you must work together to create something beautiful. Couple’s ice sculpting is usually done out in the open air so you might get a free audience.

Going for a winter dining experience might not be as you expect it. Various restaurants will offer open fire-eating for customers, who would like to sit outside and enjoy food cooked over an open flame. Quite a treat for those that are celebrating their love for one another, to be sat outdoors among a snowy landscape, enjoying some roasted chestnuts, roasted pork or even marshmallows together. It’s simple, romantic and very enjoyable.

Something a bit more personal

For any occasion, personalized gifts are the highlight of the day. Something that is made or created specifically for someone else, is going to be a hugely generous gift. Personalized winter gifts are nothing new, just like these Christmas cards which you can have your family photo printed on and choose your own texts. This is the best way to make a family Christmas greeting, as you decide everything. Choose classic collage designs or perhaps a wide-angle shot of your whole family. This is just one example, there are lots of wintery gifts that you can personalize for whoever you’re going to be a blessing.

Personalized and embroidered winter gloves are a practical yet loving gift. Not only do your hands stay warm due to the wool that’s used, but you can stitch names and characters into the gloves. You can place the name somewhere obvious if that’s what the taste of the beneficiary is, or perhaps have it done in a more subtle way such as on the wrist. Choose from traditional full-length gloves, mittens, to fingerless gloves. The classic full wool design is nice, but you also have softshell.

Going on a winter holiday

If you know someone who’s going on a winter holiday, there are quite a number of gifts you can give them, that will serve them well wherever they go. It’s highly likely that a winter holiday will involve skiing or snowboarding, so giving them a nice pair of ski socks would be a brilliant mark of caring. Ski socks are very thick, and they have a unique design that is meant to keep the toes, soles, ankles and calves warm even in freezing temperatures. It might seem like any old pair of socks when you first set eyes on them, but look a little closer. They have a unique pattern whereby more material is used in key areas as mentioned.

During skiing and snowboarding, you need to keep a firm eye on the snow that’s coming up. Any little bump of solid snow or ice could land you in big trouble. The number one thing stopping you from keeping a sharp eye on the ground is the sun. The sun’s gaze and the reflection from the snow, can at times be blinding. A nice pair of ski goggles wouldn’t go amiss. There are plenty of styles, designs and colors to choose from. Orange, blue, purple and red is the most common colors as these all do a good job of differentiating the bumps and dips in the snow. You can’t go wrong with orange or purple shades, as these will be comfortable to most eyes.

If you’re the type of person that wants to give a number of small gifts at once, try giving a beanie, scarf and long sleeve fingerless gloves. A nice pair of slippers wouldn’t be bad either; anything that can be used over and over again is a good gift.

The wintertime is perhaps the hardest for giving gifts. You can’t give someone a gift that they can’t use for another 3 months, it just doesn’t seem practical. However, all of these gifts are reusable, so not only can they improve someone’s life during these cold months, but they can use them next year and the year next too.
