The Easiest Ways to Introduce Music to Your Baby

Music is an integral part of everyone’s life in one way or another, and this holds true from the time we’re born- or even before that! Different people have different opinions about what introducing music to a baby does and why they do it, but one thing is for sure- it’s never a bad thing! So what is the easiest way to introduce music to your baby? We’ve made a list of a couple of ideas to help open your baby’s mind to the amazing world of music.

IN THE WOMB

There are claims that by playing music for your baby while they are still in the womb makes them smarter. This is yet to be scientifically proven, however, there is something that’s really great about it. Besides the fact that it can be extremely soothing for you, it really does help to soothe the baby as well. They also come to recognize the music once they are born, and this could go a long way in comforting them if you’re ever having a rough night. For baby and for you, it’s best to go for instrumental or classical music as this is the most soothing across the board.

NURSERY RHYMES

The best way to introduce music at a young age is definitely through nursery rhymes. They’re catchy and easy to learn, so they’re bound to stick and allow your child to have a connection with music, giving a great introduction to melodies and rhyming alike. If you’re not sure where to start, there are the common ones, like Pat A Cake for instance. If you’re not familiar with this nursery song then you can always go online to get the lyrics as well as the melody to help you out. There is a rich collection of nursery rhymes online and you can get as many as you like to introduce to your little one. They’re bound to have favorites that make them smile or calm them down, and you’ll know by their reactions.

PLAYING AN INSTRUMENT

A great way to introduce music to your baby is by playing an instrument for them. You should make it a point to learn how to play an instrument while you’re pregnant if you don’t already know how, so that once they’re with you, you can always play songs for them. The most common being the piano or guitar, as you can have them touch the strings or keys while you play, and this will be extremely exciting for them. To be able to associate touching something and making a sound when they do so, will give them a whole new appreciation and connection with music as they grow.

LIVE MUSIC SHOWS

Another way to introduce your baby to the world of music is to take them to live shows. Make sure that the performance is done in such a way that it’s not too loud though, because you don’t want to pose any threat that could damage their hearing. There are live shows that are made specifically for babies and children, so this is a great place to start. You can also attend live music performances where performers play soft music as well.

MUSICALS

If you want your baby to be entertained in every way possible, it’s a great idea to get a couple of musicals on tape and sit and watch them with your little one. There are plenty that has fun songs- and of course, they’re accompanied by interesting costumes and amazing dance, so all that activity on the screen will be sure to get their attention, and they’ll definitely be able to foster a liking for music if you make a point to play the songs or watch these musicals every once in a while.

There are so many ways that you can introduce music into your baby’s life, and each way is creative in its own respect. The key with young children and babies is to keep switching it up, and you can easily do that with music. This way, you allow them to continue to stay interested in music and also help them develop their ability to pay attention to detail. Follow the suggestions mentioned here and you’ll be well on your way to helping your child develop a real appreciation for music. When all else fails, we all know singing a nursery rhyme or playing a soothing piece of music will certainly go a long way in helping calm both you and your baby down. It’s the best way to put them to sleep and help them focus as well, so it’s important that you integrate it into their lives as early as you possibly can.
