Why You Should Always Ask For More

Why should you always ask for more? Well, why not? If you want more, then ask for it. Whether it’s more work or more opportunity or more money, what harm can just asking do? If you don’t ask, you don’t get, do you?

People can say no

This is an important lesson to learn – people can say no to you, and they will, and that’s okay. It happens all the time, but if you don’t ask, you don’t even have a chance. This is a particularly valuable lesson when it comes to your salary. While talking about money is never easy, and it’s certainly not always appropriate, but no matter how much you love your job, the end goal of any job is usually a salary. We go to work to earn money. So if you want to make sure you’re getting what you deserve, you need to get comfortable talking about your earnings—and knowing when to ask for more. Of course, your salary shouldn’t be at the center of every discussion, but there are a few key situations when you should definitely speak up to make the most of your career and your salary.

It shows you’re assertive

Asking for more, whether it is more money, or more opportunity or even more time, whatever it is you are showing whoever you are asking that you’re not afraid to go for it and get what you want. There’s nothing wrong with that; being assertive is a good trait to have, and as mentioned, if you are told ‘no,’ it still stands you in good stead for next time, and you never know, next time it might be a yes.

You deserve it

Even if you doubt yourself, you know deep down that you are worth more. You know if you’ve worked hard or if you’ve suffered an injury and you have a firm that can help you with Defense Base Act claims to get you more compensation benefits. Try not to doubt yourself, think about your self-worth and what you have done, and fight for it, because you deserve it.

Why not? This is what it comes down to, why not ask for more? Are you too scared? Do you not know how to do it? Do you think it’s rude? All of these things can be overcome, and you don’t know what the answer or reaction will be until you ask. So, what is the worst that can happen? Really think about it and while your mind goes through all of these silly things that could happen, really the worst thing is that they could say No – and what do we already know about that? That it’s okay if someone says no, and it happens. But hey, sometimes they might just say yes.
