4 Reasons You Need a New Kitchen

We all dream of our perfect kitchen. Maybe it’s gleaming white cupboards that glide open at the gentlest of touches and have no handles to get sticky with grease and grime. Perhaps it’s solid, wooden countertops, that look rustic and warm. It could be a kitchen island, a butler’s sink, or a hot water tap. Whatever it is, we all have things we really want when it comes to kitchens. And it’s unlikely that you moved into somewhere that already contained your dream kitchen. But, with the current emphasis being on reusing and recycling, and aiming to send as little as possible to landfill, should we just be sticking with what we’ve already got? Below, you’ll find some reasons for why installing a new kitchen can actually be a move to benefit both you and the environment, and some tips on how to do it.

1.   New cupboards

If your current cupboards are damaged and inefficient for storage, then getting new ones and/or changing the configuration of your current cupboards can be a great way to minimize food waste. We’ve all been guilty of pushing more and more packets to the back of the cupboard and, if you can’t see in or find what you need, then the use-by date passes and whatever it ends up getting thrown out. Storing efficiently so you can see what you have and where it is can prevent as much food wastage.

2.   Efficient machinery

Using old and outdated appliances will take a toll on the environment. Update your kitchen appliances and you could make a big saving on the amount of energy you use. Better for the environment (and your wallet)! There are simple things as well that can benefit the environment. You might be concerned about the amount of time and money fitting a skylight over your gorgeous new kitchen island will cost. But the additional daylight you get from having a window above you will mean you use less energy just by having the lights on less.

3.   You will want to use your kitchen

It’s not selfish or wasteful if installing a beautiful new kitchen will make you want to spend more time there. A new kitchen will last over twenty years, so you aren’t being wasteful by upgrading this vital room. You can get budget kitchen renovations which won’t leave you pale when you see the final tally and you can enjoy being in one of the most important rooms of the house.

4.   DIY

You can install gadgets that will benefit both you and the environment. Installing a new coffee machine that puts Starbucks to shame will mean you aren’t picking up a coffee in a takeaway cup on the school run. A smart meter that makes your home more energy-efficient and also allows you to see where you’re spending money. These are currently being promoted by energy companies as the future of keeping your home warm and cosy, so you can get ahead of the game by improving the tech in and around your kitchen.
