The Six Islands of Koh Phi Phi: Are They Worth Visiting in 2020?

Koh Phi Phi, also referred to as the Jewel of Asia, is one of Thailand’s famous destinations and has also become the pride of the Thai people. What comes to mind when you think of the beautiful island is its stunning turquoise waters, white sandy beaches, and the impressive cliffs surrounding the area that are great for diving.

Phi Phi islands include six islands, and each has its unique beauty:

  • Koh Phi Phi Don

The island is found off the coast of Phuket and is a vast archipelago that attracts many tourists. A lot of people enjoy it due to its clean beaches and infrastructure like hotels and restaurants, which can comfortably accommodate visitors. You can enjoy private long-tail boat rides and entertainment on the beautiful island.

  • Phi Phi Leh

Phi Phi Leh is an inhabited island that lies in the southernmost area of the Phi Phi Islands. It’s home to stunning beaches like the infamous Maya Beach that was featured in the film “The Beach.” It’s also surrounded by beautiful cliffs and tropical seas that are great for diving and snorkeling.

Note that the Maya beach is closed until 2021 to allow for restoration.

  • Bamboo Island (Koh Mai Phai)

Lying on the northern coast of the Phi Phi Islands is the Bamboo Island. It’s a small island that’s great to visit for a scene change after spending time in Phi Phi. You can enjoy a host of activities at the picturesque beach with lush vegetation at its center. Koh Mai Phai Island is a name given by the Thai people for the many bamboo trees on the island. While you’re there, you can also visit the national parks and camp overnight.

  • Mosquito Island (Koh Yung)

It’s located not far from Bamboo Island and is in the northernmost area of the Phi Phi Islands. It’s a paradise of beautiful sea corals that’s great for diving and snorkeling. Divers can explore the side of the island with the three peaks often visited by black-tipped sharks and schools of juvenile fish.

  • Koh Bida Nok and Nai

These are two islets found on the southern side of the Phi Phi Islands. They have two cliffs that jut out from under the seawater and are an excellent site for exploring if you’re into scuba diving. A host of marine life can be seen around the two islets, which feature a multitude of fish species, small sharks, coral reefs, beautiful sea anemone, and much more.

  • Koh Yao Yai

Koh Yao Yai means big long island in Thai. The name suits the large island well, which is located between Phuket and Phi Phi. It’s a perfect area to visit if you wish to learn about the traditional life of the Thai people. Fishers and farmers mostly inhabit the island with no modern infrastructure.

The Phi Phi tour of each island offers an excellent chance for an island-hopping trip, which will bring different lasting memories.
