Protect Your Blog

If you’re passionate about blogging, you’ll want to ensure that you take the right steps to protect your blog. Whether you’re an amateur blogger or a professional poster, there are plenty of unscrupulous people ready to take advantage of your hard work. If you want to protect your blog and your fanbase from hackers, take a look at these top security measures you can implement today:

Overhaul your device security

Your blog is intrinsically linked to your hardware, so the security of your laptop, desktop, tablet, or smartphone directly relates to the security of your blog. If you’re relying on inbuilt security features or using the software that was installed on your device when you bought it, then you’re woefully out of date. Take a look at the latest anti-virus software and malware programs to ensure your devices are fully protected.

Change your passwords frequently

Using complex usernames and passwords is such a simple way to increase your blog security but it’s something so few people bother to do. Instead of opting for generic or default passwords, choose something that combines capital letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Make it hard to remember, impossible to guess, and change it regularly to prevent hackers from gaining access to your blog.

Use a private server

If your blog is being hosted on a public server, then your security is only as good as the hosting company you’re using. Of course, hosting providers are bigger targets for hackers than small to mid-size blogs. By accessing a public server, hackers can gain access to hundreds of thousands of websites – including yours. By switching to a VPS server, you can customize and enhance your online security. What’s more, a private server will give you complete control over your blog and enable you to enhance its functionality and performance.

Use official plugins

If you want to make your blog as secure as possible, it’s best to avoid using plugins completely. Creating your own site from the ground up will minimize the risk of hackers being able to find a gap in the site structure, which increases your security. However, a significant number of bloggers still choose to use plugins. If you do, be sure to choose plugins that are developed by official platforms and respected developers only.

Stay up to date

If you click ‘ignore’ or ‘not now’ every time you see an update prompt, you aren’t safeguarding your blog. Although it may be inconvenient to wait for updates to install, they do significantly enhance the security of your blog. Whether it’s device and operating system updates or platform and plugin upgrades, be sure to use the latest versions if you want to remain secure.

Safeguard Your Personal Brand

If hackers do gain access to your blog, they can cause significant harm. As well as devaluing your site and stealing your content, hackers could gain unauthorized access to your subscriber’s contact details. By enhancing your security, however, you can safeguard your personal brand and enjoy an unblemished reputation as a successful blogger.
