5 Tips to Making the Best Polish Food

Polish food is one of the most famous cuisines around the world for its sweet or savory flavor. Most Polish food preparation is time-consuming, but your patience in waiting will be rewarded with a taste of heaven. Polish food names are also quite hard to memorize, but it does not matter because you might even forget your name after a taste of authentic Polish cuisine.

The Polish cooking style is well-known internationally that a French term is coined to describe it- a la polonaise, meaning ‘Polish-style.’ If you are curious about how the Polish do it, read on for five exciting tips on how glorious Polish food is made.

1. Polish cuisine is big on its butter, eggs, cream, and a variety of seasonings. Most Polish meals are rich in meat, especially pork, chicken, and beef, cleverly and painstakingly prepared with a wide range of herbs, spices, and vegetables. Traditional Polish dishes are often quite demanding in preparation with many different ingredients and multiple steps to achieve a dish that tastes out of this world.

2. Most Polish meals contain potatoes. Polish, creative as they are preparing their meals, have invented a wide variety of recipes with potatoes. One traditional Polish dish is the kopytka. It is a potato dumpling dish that is similar to Italian gnocchi. Kopytka got its name because they look like “little hooves” in Polish. It is a dish that can be served either sweet or savory. The typical topping that makes it irresistible to adults, even children, is a generous amount of butter and breadcrumbs or goulash.

3. Polish food can also be simple yet still taste heavenly. A perfect example is Paczki. It may look like your typical doughnut rolled in powdered sugar, which it is, but tastes way better. Paczki doughnuts have pillowy and brioche-like softness, which you can serve with filling or simply roll on powdered sugar. This delectable, fried pastry can be filled with your favorite strawberry or raspberry jams, custard, or chocolate. Filled or not, the Paczki is absolutely an exemplary Polish treat.

4. Polish is also known for its hospitality, where grandmas and mothers would cook for their guests and serve them a bowl of happiness. Barzcz or Borscht is a traditional Polish family cuisine usually done during the family Christmas Eve dinner. Its main ingredient is beets but is packed with vegetables and various spices, making this clean, red, and almost see-through soup so flavorful and something to look forward to on Christmas Eve for the Polish. You can make Barszcz by cooking all the ingredients in a single pot for an hour with seasonings adjusted to your taste or how grandma made it. You can discard the vegetables, and serve the savory soup in mugs for drinking or in bowls, ready for the Christmas Eve feast.

5. Polish cuisine has penetrated even the supermarkets. But store-bought Polish Pierogi is anywhere near the real thing. Pierogi is one of the most famous Polish foods which you often see in Polish homes. It also has many variations, but the main ingredient is potato and cheese wrapped in the dough like dumplings. To make it savorer, you top Pierogi with sour cream and onions sauteed in butter.

You can make Polish dishes with basic ingredients like potatoes, butter, and vegetables, easy to find and easily accessible. But what is more important in making the best Polish food is the time poured out in creating these traditional cuisines.
