Essential Baby Products for New Parents

Becoming a new parent is a magical and exciting experience in so many ways, but it’s also an enormous responsibility, and you have to be ready for it. When the baby gets home, life will change in a lot of different ways, so it’s wise to use all the time you have in the build-up to the birth to get ready, and this list will cover some of the key items every new mom and dad needs to look after their little one.

Diapers

No list of essential baby items can be complete without diapers. Babies can use up to 3,000 disposable diapers in their first year of life, after all, so it’s clear to see that having a good stock of diapers is vital. Don’t forget, however, that diapers come in different sizes and babies can grow quite quickly, so you shouldn’t buy too many of the same size right away, as some might go to waste.

They also take up a lot of space in the home, so you can’t buy too many immediately. A good option is to consider setting up a recurring order and getting diapers delivered to your home on a weekly or monthly basis. Or you might want to invest in reusable cloth diapers which can be washed and used over and over, making them more eco-friendly and better value in the long run.

Wipes

Right up there with diapers, wet wipes are another key item for new parents, and you may find that you use thousands of these little things on a very regular basis when changing diapers, cleaning surfaces, or wiping away any messes that your little one might make. Just be sure to choose wipes that are gentle and sensitive for a baby’s skin.

Nursing Items

Most new moms will choose to breastfeed their babies, and this is a great way to give your little one the nutrients it needs for healthy growth and development. However, nursing isn’t always easy, and it can even be uncomfortable too. Fortunately, there are plenty of items to help out with the process. Nursing bras, blankets, pads, breast pumps, and bottles are all key here, so make sure you’ve got everything you need.

Baby Monitors

Baby monitors are another key item you should definitely consider before bringing your baby home. Of course, if you’re going to be sleeping in the same room with your newborn for the first few weeks, a monitor might not be entirely necessary, but if you’ve got a nursery room, these monitors can prove invaluable.

They help you keep an eye on your child when you’re not in the same room, perfect for when the baby is sleeping at night or if you want to put them down for a nap while you go handle some tasks or chores in another part of the house, and the best modern monitors have smart technology and can connect to your phone for ease of use.

Crib

Of course, your baby will also need a place to rest their little head at night, and during the day for their many naps, and no nursery can be complete without a crib. Choose with care when looking for a new crib, making sure to find one that offers high standards of safety and durability.

You’ll also need to focus on finding an option that fits your budget and blends in well with your nursery’s theme or color scheme. You may also want to consider some mattress pads and waterproof liners to protect the crib from any little accidents that may occur.

Clothing

Your baby will also need some cozy clothes to stay warm and safe too, and babies tend to be messy little creatures, so it’s important to have a lot of spare items of clothing you can change them into when accidents and spillages happen.

Make sure to invest in several bodysuits, onesies, socks, booties, and mini T-shirts and pants to cover up your child in any weather conditions, and don’t forget that infants outgrow their newborn clothing quite quickly, so you’ll need to be ready to buy new, larger items later on.

Bathing Essentials

Your little baby will need to have bath-time on a regular basis too, so it’s good to be prepared for this by buying a little bathtub, a thermometer you can use to check the water temperature, soft towels, gentle washcloths, sensitive baby shampoo, and skin-friendly lotions too.

There are lots of things to buy when a baby arrives, and this list covers some of the core essentials. Make sure you’ve got all of the items on this list so you’re ready to welcome your little bundle of joy home without any worries.
