Safe Ways to Relieve Your Child’s Stomach Pain

For a parent, the worst thing is to see your child in pain and discomfort. Stomach pain in children can occur due to a number of reasons. Although there is medicine designed to treat stomach pain, there may be safer and more natural solutions. For example, you may want to do a detox for gas or make peppermint tea. Fortunately, there are a variety of safe remedies you can try.

Common Causes of Children Stomach Pains

Stomach discomfort in children is not uncommon. The reason for it may be mild, and it will go away on its own, or it may be severe and require medical attention. Understanding where the pain is and what any accompanying symptoms are may help determine the cause. Some common causes include:

  • Stomach flu: Catching a stomach virus is common, and the child may complain of general stomach pain. Some additional symptoms the child may be experiencing include fever, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Symptoms generally subside within a couple of days.
  • Indigestion: A child may experience indigestion after eating too much or eating a certain type of food. Pain often occurs in the upper part of the middle belly. Other symptoms include bloating, nausea, and burping.
  • Anxiety or stress: It is quite common for children to develop stomach pain if they are nervous or stressed about something. The location of the pain is around the belly button. There may not be additional symptoms, but be aware if there have been any changes or if there is something on the horizon that the child may be anxious about.
  • Constipation: It is normal for a child to get backed up every once in a while. The pain is generally around the belly button and on the left side. Bloating may be another symptom.
  • Appendicitis: This is an emergency situation. Pain would be in the lower right stomach and be sudden and severe.

Keep in mind that ginger should not be given to children under two and honey is not ok for those under the age of one.
