Working from Home? 10 Tips to Create a More Productive Workspace

Did you recently change to remote working due to the pandemic? It is certainly a privilege if your job allows you to work from home;however, if you have never worked remotely before, finding the same momentum as a professional workspace can be challenging.

Are you struggling to feel productive at home? Creating a dedicated workspace can be beneficial for boosting your productivity. We’re happy to share simple ways you can organize your space to work better at home. Check them out.

1. Clear the Clutter

A messy area can make you stressed and anxious. Start by clearing out the clutter from your workspace. If you can, remove excess furniture and home decor to make room for your home office. One of the biggest problems with a home office is the cables. They can look messy and become tangled. Make sure you stay on top of your Cable organization.

2. Find Natural Light

Did you know that natural light does wonders for your mood and productivity? If possible, set up your workstation near a window. Try putting up a curtain or blinds if you feel you might get distracted.

3. Install Good Lighting

Most homes don’t have the correct lighting for reading or working. Instead of straining your eyes, install good lighting in your workspace. You can change out the bulbs or purchase a table lamp.

Since you’re spending most of your time indoors, your energy bills are bound to spike. This is a good time to compare energy providers and look for a better-priced plan.

4. Consider a Standing Desk

Sitting for prolonged periods of time without any breaks can lead to many health issues. If you are too busy to take frequent breaks, a standing desk will be your saviour.

5. Buy an Ergonomic Chair

If there is only one thing you decide to buy for a home office, it should be an ergonomic chair. Proper back support is essential to prevent neck and back pain.

6. Put Up a Smart Power Strip

When you are working from home, you are likely dependent on your computer, Wi-Fi, phone, headphones, and probably other devices. To avoid unexpected technical issues, keep all cords and chargers organised with the help of a power strip. Go for a smart power strip to prevent phantom load loss.

7. Get Snacking

One of the biggest difficulties of working remotely in a pandemic is the lack of social interaction. Unfortunately, the usual water cooler chats are out of the question. But that doesn’t mean you should keep working without any breaks.

Set up a corner with snacks, tea, or coffee to remind yourself to get up from your desk and take breaks.

8. Invest in High-Quality Headphones

Working from home has several benefits, noise-free workspace not being one of them. From a noisy neighbourhood to young kids, there’s isn’t much you can do to have a quiet environment at home.

Luckily, technology is here to save the day. Invest in high-quality noise cancelling headphones that will help you concentrate better.

9. Adequate Storage

Organising all of your technology, paperwork, and stationeryon top of having adequate storage is indispensable for a tidy desk. Purchase storage containers, desk organisers, and filing cabinets to make sure everything is in place. If you have a label maker, use it to properly label everything.

10. Switch it Up

The best part about working from home is that you don’t have to sit at the same desk every day. If you feel like your productivity is declining, then switching up your workspace can give you a much-needed boost.

The kitchen island or balcony are some great spots to try but choose any space other than your bed. Working on your bed is one of the biggest productivity killers.

Though several companies introduced a remote-working policy because of the Covid-19 outbreak, it is something that holds long-term potential for the organization as well as the employees. As many organizations are planning to permanently transition to remote working, creating a home office is definitely worth the effort.
