Baby Bag Packing List: Essentials You Should Always Have For Your Newborn

Packing a baby bag might seem like a pretty straightforward task, although even the most prepared mom can leave a few essentials behind and later find herself in a bit of pickle. While you want to pack in everything you need, you also don’t want to overpack as you already have so much to cart around from the baby bag to your carrier and stroller and, of course, a blanket or two. So, if you’re a new mom and you need to pack a baby bag for a trip to the mall or a day visit to your friend, here are all the essentials that your baby will need to bring along with you.

Find A Baby Bag With Compartments

But before we get into all the essentials, the type of bag you choose is most important. A regular large shopper bag might suffice, although it’s not the ideal choice. The best kind of baby bag will have plenty of compartments inside to allow the organization and make it simple and easy to find what you need when you need it. Digging through a large shopper bag can get frustrating. So go for a bag with as many zips and pockets as possible. It would be best to keep a D-ring belt in your baby bag as these are convenient straps. You can use them to secure a dummy or bottle within the bag and for various other functions. Once you’ve found the right bag and a couple of D-ring belts in suitable lengths, here’s what you should keep in your baby bag.

A Pack Of Wet Wipes And 3 Extra Nappies

You can’t predict when you’ll need to change your little one, and you can’t exactly carry a whole packet of nappies with you at all times. Three should be more than enough for a quick trip to the store or a day visit; any more will consume too much of your bag space. A packet of wet wipes is also essential for change, and you should always keep an entire pack in your baby bag as they are helpful for various cleanup reasons.

Bum Cream And Moisturizer

Bum cream is essential for changes too, and moisturizer is handy to have as you might need to wash babies’ hands or face while out and about, and you won’t want your little ones’ skin to dry out, especially if the weather is pretty cold.

A Baby Bottle With Water

If you breastfeed your baby, you should still bring a baby bottle with purified water, as even breastfed babies should also drink water now and then, especially if the weather is warmer. On the other hand, if your newborn is bottle-fed, you should bring along a bottle or two with purified water and a separate container with formula. It will simplify the effort of things if you prepare one bottle of things beforehand and bring a second bottle of water with a different formula container that has already been measured.

A Clean Hand Towel

Hand towels help clean up spills and messes, so you should always have a clean one in your baby bag. For extra measure, you could also keep a clean face cloth in your bag as well for smaller messes. Always opt for soft fabric towels to protect your baby’s skin.

A Change Of Clothes

All new moms already know that newborns need to be changed numerous times throughout the day due to messes and spills. So, you should pack in at least one change of clothes whenever you leave the house. Your spare change of clothes should also include a clean bib or two to keep your little one’s chest clean and dry from milk messes.

A Toy Or Two

Even newborn babies enjoy entertainment, and you will need to have something to keep them entertained when you leave the house. Babies can get fussy quite quickly, so packing in a favorite toy or teddy bear is a wise move. If your baby uses a dummy, always pack in a spare dummy as they can fall and become dirty. However, you can use a D-ring belt strap to secure a dummy to your baby’s vest or jersey and prevent falls. For instance, CMC GOLD offers a wide range of baby dummy clips australia to suit all tastes.

A Soft Blanket

Your baby bag is likely already getting quite full, although you still need to pack in a soft baby blanket. You will likely have your little one wrapped in a blanket already, although packing in an extra one will prevent frustration if the blanket gets wet or spoilt during your outing. You can roll up the blanket to save space and keep your baby bag neat.

An Empty Plastic Packet Or Waterproof Bag

In case of messes, it could ruin the baby bag to put messed or spoiled clothing inside the bag, unless you have a plastic packet or a waterproof bag to use for dirty clothing. You can pack in either to protect the other contents of the bag when changing your baby’s clothing. You should also pack in a few nappy bags to secure a dirty diaper until you can find a garbage bin to dispose of it properly.

Optional Extras

Depending on the length of your outing, you may need to bring a few optional extras. Perhaps an extra set of clothing or a few extra nappies is required. In addition, you may need to pack in medicines your little one is using, which should be kept separate from everything else in the bag to avoid spills. You can also pack in a teething ring if your little one enjoys nibbling on the soft toy.

Other extras will depend on the type of outing and the duration. However, the essentials mentioned above are basic items that you should always have in your baby bag. When you return from your outing, be sure to replace any disposable items used and pack in a fresh set of clothing so that your baby bag always contains everything you need.
