How to Take Care of Your Skin After Pregnancy?

As soon as your baby is born, you might find yourself not having time for all the things that used to be important. You may not have time to get a haircut or wash your hair every day. But one thing you should make sure to take care of after pregnancy is your skin! Your skin will change during pregnancy – it becomes more sensitive and less elastic. It is good practice to use gentle products on your face, even if you’re just washing it with water.

Plus, since many pregnant women experience acne in some form or another acne can happen at any age!), there are specific treatments for this condition that are safe for new moms. Here are a few tips on how to take care of your skin after delivery.

Wash your face with a gentle cleanser and moisturize

Even if you are one of the fortunate few that had a beautiful pregnancy glow throughout your 9 months, this can change at any time postpartum. The stress of pregnancy and a newborn baby shows up in different ways. You may find yourself developing pigmentation or dark spots, dry skin, acne breakouts, and puffy eyes that give way to dark circles. Having a baby is beautiful, but we know that it is tiring at the same time. Regardless of how drained you may be, remember to cleanse your face twice a day with a mild cleanser to stop spots from spreading. Established skincare brands like Misumi will help you learn more about choosing your perfect skincare product, as they provide extensive information on their websites in an attempt to meet the specific needs of an individual. For best results, they advise looking for products suitable for your skin type, or those that will be effective in dealing with a particular skin problem.

Apply sunscreen daily

Your skin can change drastically post-delivery, and this is largely due to hormonal imbalances, fatigue, and stress. The good news is that this can be overcome with a few changes to your skincare routine. Because the skin loses elasticity during pregnancy, it becomes even more sensitive to the elements. Using a suitable moisturizer with a sun protection factor of 15 and above is highly recommended to protect your skin against the harsh rays of the sun. Applying sunscreen will help to avoid further damage to your skin.

Use a gentle exfoliant

There are a plethora of benefits from exfoliating your skin. Exfoliants generally work by unclogging blocked pores caused by bacteria and getting rid of dead skin cells, thereby giving your skin an instant glow. A gentle exfoliant is crucial to your routine since it deeply cleanses and allows your facial products to penetrate your skin more effectively. For optimal results, you should exfoliate at least 2 to 3 times a week. There are two main types of exfoliants to choose from; chemical exfoliants like acid peels and serums, and physical exfoliants that come in a variety of forms like clay masks and facial scrubs. Some products incorporate both types, but given the complexity of using chemical-based exfoliants, physical exfoliants seem to be the better option postpartum.

Avoid using products with alcohol

You may have heard that using alcohol-based products enables better absorption of ingredients such as vitamin C and retinol. This is true. But it’s the way that alcohol works that matters. In order to aid effective absorption of other products, the alcohol breaks down your skin barrier and destroys your skin’s natural ability to keep itself healthy. Products that contain alcohol are prone to doing more harm than good for your skin. Post-delivery skin can be hypersensitive, and alcohol-based products can dry out your skin and causing your already tired, dry skin to crack. Contrary to popular belief, alcohol does make oily skin worse.

Eat healthy foods

Beauty is not just skin deep, it starts on the inside. And what you put into your body will reflect in your skin. Replenish the softness and glow in your skin by eating iron-rich foods such as leafy green veggies, and foods rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, such as salmon or walnuts. Clean, healthy meals will have you looking and feeling great in no time at all!

Drink plenty of water everyday dehydration is one of the main causes of dull, dry skin, and drinking at least 8 to 10 glasses of water will help to support your liver, get your hormonal levels in order, and restore your natural, radiant glow. You could even try detox water to clean out toxins from your uterus.
