3 things You Need To Know Before Traveling To The Ivory Coast

The Ivory Coast is a beautiful country with a rich culture filled with friendly people. This beautiful nation has been one of the most popular tourist destinations in Africa for many years. Many backpackers, students, and even families flock to this country for some fun-filled adventures or to attend special events such as the FESPACO Film Festival.

Known for its beaches, rain forests, and rich wildlife, the major cities are Abidjan (the capital), Yamoussoukro, Bouake, Daloa, and San Pedro. Its official languages are French and Cote d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) French. Here are three primary things you need to know before traveling to the Ivory Coast:

What to bring with you?

If you’re going to the Ivory Coast, obviously, filling out the Ivory Coast eVisa application and packing clothing and toiletries are important. In addition, there are a few other items that will make your stay more comfortable. But there are also some items that you might not think about bringing along but really should—for example, a water bottle or travel mug. A good cup of coffee is hard to come by in some parts of Africa, and it can really help brighten up a long bus ride.

You’ll probably be staying in a hotel or hostel in Ivory Coast. Most likely, you’ll need towels. Some hotels may not even have towels for you to use, so it is safest to bring your own.

If you are planning on traveling outside of the city, I would suggest bringing hiking gear. You never know what type of terrain you might encounter when traveling through Ivory Coast!

Some more things:

  1. A sunscreen that can handle the sun – The sun in Côte d’Ivoire is intense! Don’t forget your sunscreen because if you’re not careful, you’ll burn easily.
  2. A mosquito net – If you plan on camping or staying in hostels.
  3. Vitamins – The water quality in the Ivory Coast is poor, which means travelers can get sick if they tap water.

Visa requirements

How to get Ivory Coast visa? Visa requirements for traveling to Ivory Coast will be different according to your country of origin and the purpose of your trip. There are mainly two kinds of visas depending on your nationality:

– Tourist visa (single entry) is valid for a stay of up to 90 days and allows you to travel independently, without a guide or a group. It is strictly forbidden to work on this type of visa.

– eVisa (single or multiple entries) is valid for a stay of up to 90 days.

Things to do in the Ivory Coast

There are many things to do in this beautiful country, including scuba diving, snorkeling, hiking, visiting national parks, or relaxing on its beaches.

Visiting the various national parks throughout the country can be quite rewarding. These include Taï National Park and Comoé National Park, which are both home to unique species of birds and animals alike.

Akouedo Fort (near Bouake) – it was built by French colonists; you can reach it on foot (1-hour walk); there is no entrance fee; the main task of the fortress was protection.

Many travelers have come to the Ivory Coast for its white sandy beaches along the coast. This is because there is 1,000 km of coastline in this country where you can enjoy sunbathing, surfing, swimming or just lazing on the beach. You will find that there are plenty of activities to do during your holiday in the Ivory Coast.
