Avoid the 3 Cleaning Mistakes When Moving Out of Your Rental

By now everybody knows that they need to clean their house when they are moving out. It is especially important if you are a renter. Since there is a deposit on the line that will be withheld if you don’t clean the place better than how you found it, you really need some good cleaning tips

In addition to tips on how to clean up the place, you also need some tips on how to not clean your place. Mistakes that get made while cleaning will put your deposit at risk, too. Your best bet is to simply hire a cleaning company like Woodard to avoid making a costly mistake. However, if you want to do it yourself then make sure to avoid these common cleaning mistakes.

1 – Not testing cleaning products first

Even reading the instructions on cleaning products may make you feel like you have a handle on how to clean with them. However, sometimes you think you have it figured out only to realize that you were wrong.

For instance, some carpet cleaners can’t be used on certain materials. If you don’t know what the material your carpet is made out of and then use the wrong cleaner, you could ruin it. That will surely cause you to lose your deposit.

It could turn the carpet a different color, or even degrade the material and ruin it. Make sure to do a test of how the cleaner works on a small, unseen part of any material that you plan to clean. In the case of a carpet, try it out inside of a closet before you commit to the whole thing. Give it a day to see how it reacts and if there is no change then you are good to go.

2 – Cleaning electronics with harsh cleaners

Assuming that you have electronics that are part of the furnishing like a TV that will remain then you have to make sure that they are dust free and look as new as they did when you moved in. This means you have to use the right cleaner on them.

Unfortunately, some cleaners will ruin sensitive electronics or screens of devices. For instance, many people often assume that a window or glass cleaner is ok to use on a flat-screen TV to clean it off.

If you decide to do the same then you may as well buy a new one because it will get ruined. Make sure to only use products designed to be used with devices and electronics.

3 – Soaking dirty upholstery

If there is a stain on the couch then you need to use a spot cleaner treatment, especially for upholstery stains. Some people think that dumping lots of water over the stains will help dilute them and wash them away. The only thing that you end up doing is causing mold and mildew to grow on it since it takes too long to dry.
