My family is constantly on-the-go and we are not always together and we don’t get to visit with family a lot during hockey and soccer season. I am always looking for ways for us to stay connected both at home and on the go. Sure we have phones but my youngest does not have a cellphone yet and honestly we are all not that great at answering phone calls.
We do have an Amazon Alexa device in our kitchen but it is mainly used for music and asking Alexa questions. I thought that was enough but after reading about the Facebook Portal Go I knew it would be a great addition to our home.
It is seriously an all-in-one device that looks like a tablet but is always on and ready to be used. It stands on its own and has so many great features.
Portable – It sits on a charger (no cords to plug in just sits on the charger) and features an integrated handle making it easy to move from room to room.
Long-lasting battery – While it sits on a charger most of the time if you need to carry it to another room for example for a video call, music playing, recipe following or whatever.
Video-calling – Call anyone, anywhere. Use Messenger, WhatsApp, Zoom and more to connect with friends and family—even if they don’t have a Portal.
Smart camera and sound – Smart Camera adjusts automatically so you can move freely and stay in frame, while Smart Sound ensures you can always be heard. This is great especially if kids are carrying it around! If someone enters the room, it widens to keep everyone in view.
Powerful sound – Listen to music via Spotify and Pandora with a speaker that can fill any room. Doubles as a portable Bluetooth speaker around the home. I am especially loving I Heart Radio because you don’t have to log into anything to start playing music!
Perfect for video calls from home – Work from (anywhere in your) home. Free up your laptop with a dedicated video calling device you can easily take from room to room and still be able to use your laptop or PC.
Alexa Built-in – Control your smart home, listen to your favorite music, watch the news, get the weather, set a timer and more. This can replace the Alexa device you may already have in that room. With Alexa Built‑in, you can listen to music, see the news, check the weather, make lists, set timers, control your smart home and more – all you have to do is ask.
Privacy by design. Easily disable the camera and microphone, or block the lens with the camera cover. All Messenger and WhatsApp calls are encrypted. You just slide the black circle over. You can also hit on a button the top and that blocks sound and camera, with a red light showing you that it is activated.
Built-in web browser – This is great for quick searches rather than booting up your laptop. You can also then bookmark your favorite sites or add to the App screen for quick visits.
10-inch size – This device is huge and you don’t realize how big it is until you are using it and can actually see everything clearly.
Modern design – I honestly love the gray color rather than boring and traditional black. This looks great in my living room.
AR Effects and Filters – Transform any call with AR masks and backgrounds from Disney, Marvel and more. Or become the star of iconic children’s tales, with music, animation and special effects.
Story time – Activate Story Time at any time during a call, then read along with on-screen text and prompts. Story Time guides you through, step-by-step. Portal comes with a library of stories built-in, with more free stories added regularly. When a new story becomes available you’ll see it appear within Story Time automatically. This would be especially adorable for grandparents to use to read stories to kids.
So many apps included – There are so many popular apps included and the list is constantly growing.
Honestly, I was not sure we would use this enough to justify the almost $200 cost but it is something we use daily and has made so many everyday tasks go smoother. My kids especially love that they can call their grandparents easily (the grandparents don’t have Portals yet but can answer the video calls on their phones through apps.) I love carrying it to whatever room I am in for whatever I need it for – usually a bluetooth speaker or following a Pinterest recipe. The difference too between a tablet and a Portal Go is that this stands on its own rather than trying to prop a tablet on something to follow it.
You can find the Facebook Portal Go on Amazon or wherever electronics are sold.
