Years ago I got to try out a VR headset and back then it was one of the first and I thought it was amazing. I remember it being a little awkward to wear but I thought the graphics were amazing. After trying out the Quest 2 though I was totally blown away.
Does your family or kids really need another electronic device in the house? Honestly, I was skeptical when my 14-year-old started asking for one. I mean he already has a video game system and phone he is on way too much, did I really want to add a VR headset to the mix? And was it going to be safe for him? I had so many questions and doubts until I started reading about the Quest 2.
2. You can interact with friends through multiplayer games, live shows, workouts and more.
3. There are no wires and you get 2 wireless controllers! This is huge as it means you don’t have to worry about tripping over cords or swinging cords around you. The two controllers allow you to really interact in the games as you would in real life. Below is my husband playing a hockey game and acting as a goalie!
4. Quest 2 has an advanced processor and highest resolution display yet along with built-in speakers that deliver cinematic 3D positional audio. Like I said VR has come a long way since I first tried it years ago and this one has all the specs you’d want. I won’t go into crazy details on the specs as you can look those up but trust me when I say it feels like you are really there when you are viewing stufff in the VR world.
5. You may have heard horror stories of users hurting themselves by running into things or falling which of course could always happen but Quest 2 does have a feature called Guardian. By using Guardian you define your space and create a safe play area in your physical space.
Honestly I wasn’t sure if the Quest 2 would be something my family would continue to use or it would be something used for a week or two then set aside. I can say that amazingly it has been used almost daily by someone in our house for a month so far. I love how we all have our favorites and reasons for uses and that there is constantly more and more things to do being added.
Now the only thing I do want to add is that you do have to buy apps to do most of the cool stuff. The games for example are around $20 which is still cheaper than traditional video games but do add up. We spent maybe $100 but that was a lot of apps and should keep my family busy awhile. There are though plenty of things to do with the Quest 2 for free, you just gotta look around for it.
Check out the Quest 2 VR on Amazon, the Oculus website or wherever electronics are sold.
