Spicing Up Your Home With Something Truly Unique

When it comes to our home decor, not only do we tend to want to make things look great, but we want to personalise it, as well, to give it a bit of our own individuality. The wide range of choices you can make can help you imprint your home with your own style, but finding something that’s truly unique and one-of-a-kind can give it that impression immediately. Here are a few ways to get your hands on that “something unique” that your home might be missing.

Photos are a good place to start

While they might be a relatively easy option, that doesn’t mean that hanging photos on your wall, or setting a photo gallery, is any less effective. These are naturally going to be wholly unique since there are few people who are likely to have the same memories documented and photographed as you and, even if they did, they’re not as likely to use them in their home decor. Your choice of photography and how you frame can greatly change the impact they have on the room, as well, so this tip is a little more versatile than it might seem.

Set the tone of the room

While not exactly one unique item, there is a way to create a unique focal point. That is the art of the vignette. People define vignettes in a few ways, but we’re operating by the principle that it’s a collection of items that are gathered and displayed together with the aim of becoming a focal point, often communicating the theme of a room or area. You can learn how to create vignettes from almost anything, and finding the right pieces can help you really create something wholly distinct and new.

Hang an original on your wall

If you want to display something unique and make it immediately clear that it’s unique, then getting an original painting by an artist to hang on your wall is a relatively easy way to do it. Hanging art in the home gives it a sense of class and allows you to immediately display your sensibilities and tastes. What’s more, it can frame you as a patron of local or international artists, which can communicate something flattering about yourself, too. If you get an original, you can make sure that no one else has it, too.

Showing your collection

One of the benefits of hanging art on your wall is that gives off the impression of something that you have curated and collected, that no one else can do. This doesn’t just apply to art, either, however, there are a lot of ways to display your collections in your home decor. Aside from being unique and distinct, showing your collections also gives some insight into your hobbies and interests, which brings the home a little closer to your personality. It’s not about being distinct, alone, after all, it’s about putting some of yourself in your home.

The options above are just examples. There are plenty of other wholly unique pieces you can either find or commission for your home so feel free to explore, too.
