Life Lessons I Learned from My Mother

As children, the people who become our first role models are our parents. They are the ones we spend a lot of time with during childhood and adolescence. And even though in the adult period of our lives we spend less time with our parents than before, some life lessons will remain with us forever. Many say that you do not need a manual to live your life, but a mother to teach you how to do it.

Mothers are the most amazing people on this Earth as they devote their life and attention to their children. Thinking about what I learned from my mother comes with a lot of emotions and memories. Some things will stay with me forever and for sure they have a place in my mind called lessons from mom. This is a nice exercise to do as it will help you be more grateful towards your mother.

What have I learned from my mom? Here are a few things.

Be Grateful and Positive

Being grateful and positive is one of the first things I have learned from my mother. It is a life lesson that will stay with me forever and I will always say this to myself when things go crazy. We live hectic lives, we are busy, our schedule is crowded, and we do not have enough time to do what we would like to do. This comes with stress, burnout, some mental issues that might make us be more impulsive and focus on the negative things.

Students who are in college or university and need to write an essay, take part in a course, go to a class to meet the requirements of the professor are surely stressed too. These moments might make you focus on the empty part of the glass. But one of the things I learned from my mother is to be grateful and positive. We all should be grateful for the lives we are living and the opportunities we have.

There are people in the world who go through the most dramatic and tragic events and they leave a mark on them. Be positive and look towards the future with hope. Gratitude comes with happiness and satisfaction, so practicing it daily is something my mom taught me to do.

Work Hard and Follow Your Dreams

Another important lesson I have learned from my mother is to work hard for what I want to achieve. Success does not come with luck, but with hard work. And if I have a dream I truly believe in, then I should follow it at all costs. Of course, people change over time and this happens with their desires and needs too.

But to be happy, you need to make everything possible to follow your dreams and work hard towards achieving them. Sometimes, there might be obstacles you need to overcome. You might need writing help during college to write essays about friendship. You can get it from professionals and this might be the boost you need to pursue your academic goals.

Be Understanding

One of the most valuable life lessons I have learned is to be understanding towards each other. Everyone is fighting their own battle. Everyone has their story. And when you do not know it, it is easy to judge others. It is important to be understanding towards people you do not know but not only.

Even though people might show they are strong, they might need your help. Do not judge and be understanding.

Help Other People

Asking for help is not something society teaches you. Instead, it seems to punish those who make mistakes, something that makes others think that this is wrong. But mistakes are humane and everyone on this Earth makes them. It is important to learn from them and always leave with a lesson on how you could do it better the next time.

But while some people are open to admitting they need help, others cannot do it. It might be because they are proud or because they learned that this is wrong. What I have learned from my mother is a very precious lesson.

Always help others. Some might ask for it, some might not. But being there when your friends, families, and dear ones need you is important. You can be the support they need during difficult times. Of course, helping others is not only about your closest ones.

There are a lot of people who are for sure less fortunate than you. Some people lost their jobs to the global pandemic. Others have lost their houses to hurricanes, tornadoes, or other cataclysms. Others have lost their families in an accident. There are a lot of unfortunate events that can happen.

Helping those in need is a nice quality and thing to do, but not all people can do it. Sometimes, you might feel you do not have enough for yourself; how could you help another human being? Well, what I do nowadays is donate a certain monthly amount to organizations that have a mission. I donate to those who ensure the education of children, but also the ones that save animals and find them new owners.

Final Thoughts

We can learn a lot of useful things from everyone around us. My mother was the person that was always near me, offering me advice and support. She taught me to be kind, supportive, understanding, to work hard, and follow my dreams.
