Deciding Whether to Hire Professional Cleaners for Your Home

Many of us lead busy lives these days. You might have two adults in the home, and both of you work. Maybe one adult stays at home and helps to raise the kids.

Whatever method you have in place to get through the day and put food on the table, it’s tough keeping up with the housework. Maybe you’re dealing with child-rearing but also bringing in money, grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning, yard work, etc.

All of that can feel overwhelming. A time might come when you wonder if you can take certain actions to make your life a little bit easier. For instance, maybe you want to think about hiring a professional cleaning service that can come straighten up around the house.

Let’s talk about how you can decide whether this move makes sense or not.

Do You Have the Money to Do It?

Choosing the right contract cleaning service is something that you should not find very difficult. If you live in any major city, or even a smaller one, for that matter, you can probably just Google “professional house cleaning near me” or something along those lines, and you should see plenty of options pop up. You can then start doing a little research to see which service has the best reviews.

Aside from reviews, the price will matter. If you barely have enough money coming in to cover essentials like rent, groceries, and utilities, then you obviously can’t afford a professional house cleaning service, as much as you might like one. If you want one, you’ll need to find a better-paying job, take on more hours, or find some other way to increase the household income.

However, you can also consider contacting a professional house cleaning service and only having them come by infrequently. Even if you don’t have a ton of extra money to spare, sometimes you can scrape together enough to have cleaners come once per month. Twice per month is better, or even once per week, but many families simply can’t afford that.

Why Hire a Professional Housecleaner?

If you have kids, work long hours, or have other things going on in your life that make cleaning difficult, hiring a professional cleaning service to come in occasionally will likely tempt you. If you have older kids, you can assign them chores, which can help with this issue. If your kids aren’t old enough yet to handle things like washing dishes, vacuuming, straightening up their rooms, dusting, mopping the floors, etc., the adults in the house must do it.

Even if you try to straighten up and clean during your spare moments, running around after the kids might exhaust you. When you have a little downtime, you may want to lie down on the couch and take a nap instead of dusting and tidying up.

A professional house cleaner can do things like deep clean the bathroom that you probably don’t want to do during your rare free moments. Even if you have very little spare money, you might feel like a cash outlay once or twice per month isn’t the worst idea. If you live in Canada you can get quality house cleaning services in Calgary or find a similar service local to you.

Can You Hire Non-Professional Housecleaners?

Of course, maybe you feel like you can split the difference. You don’t quite have the money to hire a professional house cleaning service, even to come in once or twice per month. However, perhaps you can talk to a retired neighbor or a younger neighbor who wants to make some extra cash.

You can get someone that way who will doubtless charge less than a professional cleaning service will. They might not be as good at cleaning as the pros, but they can help you keep the house in order, so you don’t feel quite as spent all the time.

How Can You Decide?

If you’re thinking about hiring a professional house cleaning service or trying to reach out to a neighbor to see if they can do it, you should speak with the other adult household members. You’ll need to talk about your household budget to see if this is a viable option.

If it is, you should know that some professional house cleaning companies will want to schedule a “deep clean” before they start their monthly or twice-monthly regimen. That deep clean is usually more costly than the regular maintenance cleanings.

This option is not for everyone, but if you can afford even an occasional professional house cleaning, it can make your life a lot easier.
