Signs of Roof Damage That You Need to Be Aware Of

Your roof is one of the most important components of your home that deserves a bit of extra attention now and then. People often overestimate the amount of punishment that their roof can take. If you are more aware of your roof you will be able to tell whether you need to get a long-lasting roof from a trusted roofing company. Your roof is going to keep your home safe and the more you look after it, the longer it will last for you. While it’s great that they can withstand the elements, they do suffer damage over time and it’s a good idea to learn what the signs of heavy damage are.

Loose roof tiles

If you notice that some roof tiles are physically loose then you may want to consider getting a repair or replacement done. Roof tiles are usually a precursor to more serious issues, but it’s usually the first thing you notice because you’ll be physically missing a tile. In some cases, the tile may fall to the ground after rolling off the roof, but loose tiles can also get stuck on the roof itself. If you notice that any of the tiles are loose or out of place on your roof, there’s a good chance that more of your tiles are also loose and will soon follow.

Mold and moss growth on your roof

One of the biggest signs that your roof could be damaged is if there are green patches of mold and moss growth on it. This is where you may need to hire a gutter cleaning service to help you clean out not only the roof itself but anything that may have fallen or grown into the gutters. Moss and mold growths can get stuck between tiles, forcing them apart and loosening individual shingles. This can eventually lead to water damage because it creates a large enough gap for rain and other sources of water to seep in.

Leaking in the attic

Leaks in the attic are a huge problem that needs to be dealt with as soon as possible. This usually indicates serious roof damage and it can get worse if left unattended. It can eventually destroy the structure of your home and drastically weaken the entire structure of your roof if you’re not careful.

An old roof that has never been replaced

Sometimes, roof damage isn’t exactly the most visible thing. You might get situations where there is light shining through your roof but there’s no physical damage on the tiles themselves. Or perhaps there are areas where water leaks in, but they’re not visible right now because the holes or cracks are fairly small. If you think that these problems are affecting your roof but you don’t physically see any damage, then there’s a good chance that you’ve got an old roof that has never been replaced before. A roof should generally last around two to three decades and they need to be replaced in order to keep your home safe. So if it’s been many years since someone has even looked at your roof for maintenance, consider hiring a service or taking a look yourself.
