Creative Ways To Make Sunday School More Fun

Whether you’re a Sunday school teacher, or the leader of a religious organization, guiding young minds is undoubtedly a primary priority for all churches out there.

The young attendants at your Sunday school are the future of your church, the faithful leaders of tomorrow, and so guiding them to the Lord’s heart is an important responsibility.

And when it comes to guiding curious young minds, it’s always a great idea to make sure the environment is vibrant, fun, and exciting. So, we’ve listed a few creative ways that you can make Sunday school more fun.

Invest In Age-Appropriate Literature

It won’t do well to have regular King James version bibles in the youth section of your church; the language in these bibles is not particularly easy to understand for young children.

It’s vital to have literature that’s age-appropriate, from vbs curriculum bibles to religious short stories and even daily motivational books.

Consider Flexible Seating

Sunday school should preferably be vastly different from regular school. It’s best to avoid school tables and chairs as this will create a strict learning environment rather than a fun one.

Consider flexible seating options like bean bags, balance balls, and others that will liven up the space and ensure the children are comfortable. Flexible seating is also the best choice when it comes to spine health, so new seating is a worthwhile investment.

Community Art Contests

Nothing frees little minds quite the same way art can. So, what better way to truly appeal to the young community than to host an art contest. You could even make the contest an annual occurrence that children can look forward to.

Prizes don’t need to be anything extraordinary or lavish; recognition is often rewarding enough for creative minds, although a tangible award is always best.

Be sure to center the theme of the contest around Christianity to keep the competition relevant to your church. This is also an excellent way for churches to get involved with the community.

Incorporate Song And Dance

Song and dance activities are another excellent way to liven up Sunday school meetings. Instead of keeping the learning strictly to religious discussions, consider including Christian song and dance activities as well.

Redecorate The Space

Beyond contests and sing-a-long songs, you can also redecorate the classroom area to make it more suitable for little ones.

If the Sunday school classroom is bland and void of decor, there’s no doubt you’ll be sitting with bored little ones who are falling asleep during the religious lessons.

Children love bright, vibrant colors, so decorate accordingly and be sure to add a storage box or two of age-appropriate toys for smaller kids.

Plan Outings

With the permission of the parents and church leaders, you can plan religious outings for Sunday school as well. The children will benefit from outings into nature, visits to museums, and other educational outings. Even if the tour doesn’t specifically encourage faith, it will spark interest and excitement in your religious students.
