When Was The Last Time You Had A Health Check-up?

A lot of the time, it’s easy to forget to visit the doctor when you haven’t really had a reason to. If there doesn’t seem to be anything wrong, then why waste a day in the waiting room? Well, health checkups can be very insightful, and you may find that your health is at risk of something serious. It’s better to catch these things as soon as possible, as the earlier you catch them – the more time you’ll have to do something about it before it gets out of hand.

That’s not just about your primary care doctor, it’s about your gynecology appointments, your eye doctor, your dentist, and possibly even your therapist/psychiatrist. Of course, different concerns require a different specialist, and while it’s a lot to keep up – your health should be your top priority.

Primary care doctor

The frequency of your visits may depend on your age and general health condition, but for the majority of people – you should be having a health check-up every three years. It’s not too often, but having them so far apart can make it far easier to forget. If you have any concerns about your health, you should be making your appointments as soon as possible – especially for symptoms that last more than a week or two.

If you’re over the age of 50, it might be time to start seeing your doctor once a year, as you’re statistically more at risk of dangerous conditions.

OB/GYN

You can never be too safe with your health, and it’s important that you consider all specialists, even your OB/GYN. It’s important that you take things like cancer concerns seriously, and visiting a professional will help you to identify signs or symptoms very early on – which may not be discernible to the patient. For those in Georgia, finding an obgyn in Cumming ensures you have local access to quality care. It’s because of this that you should be visiting your gynecologist at least once per year.

Eye doctor

Just like with your primary care doctor, the frequency of your appointments may vary. Usually, you should only really think about seeing your eye doctor once every two years, just to make sure your eyesight is fine and you’re not in need of prescription glasses – however, as you get older, you might decide it’s better to visit your doctor even more.

On the other hand, once you have prescription glasses, your appointments might need to be more frequent to make sure you still have the right prescription.

Dentist

Individuals with good oral health will only need to worry about seeing the dentist every 1-2 years, but if you notice any concerns or are experiencing pain – you should be booking your appointment as soon as possible.

Therapist/Psychiatrist

Not everyone is due an appointment with a therapist or a psychiatrist, but if you’ve noticed your mental health declining, or you’re struggling with situations that others wouldn’t – checking in with a mental health professional could be a great help. There are many who don’t believe they need mental health care while dealing with underlying mental illness.
