7 Things in Your Home That Are Making You Unhappy

Our home is the one place where we should always be able to feel happy and relaxed, and to a large extent, how happy we feel at home is about us ad the people we live with, but there are some things that, if you have them in your home, they can contribute to making you feel less than happy, and which when removed, could boost your spirits significantly.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at some common things you may have in your home that could be making you unhappy right now:

1. Clutter

If you have accumulated a lot of stuff and it is hanging around your home cluttering up the place despite the fact you never use it or even enjoy it anymore, get on to Red Dog Dumpster Rentals, hire a large dumpster and sitch your clutter right now. Clutter can make you feel depressed, so you wi be better off without it.

When your home is cluttered your mind is too It is much harder to kick back and relax when stuff is spilling out all over the place and you are worried about inviting friends over because of the mess or you can’t sleep for thinking about all of those clothes that need to be organized in the morning. Have a place for everything and everything in its place if you want to be happy at home.

2. Unflattering photos

There is no need to display that photo of you when you were having a bad hair day just because your friend loves it or there is no need to display your kids ‘childhood photos if it embarrasses them just because you have fond memories. Put them in a scrapbook so you can look at them when you want instead, or throw them out completely if you really hate them and only display the photos that you love the most. Life is too short to be cringing at pat images of yourself every time you enter the living room!

3. Family heirlooms

This is a tricky one because if you have been handed down an heirloom by a much-loved member of the family who clearly loved it and wanted you to love it just as much, it can be hard to not put it on display no matter how much you do not like it, but you need to remember that your family are not around all the time, so if you really do hate that creepy antique doll or that old har stand really doesn’t go with the decor, simply put them into storage and take them out when your relative foes come around so they get to see it being enjoyed, but you don’t have to see it on display all day every day.

4. Your child’s stuff

This is not meant to sound callous in any way; you clearly love your kids and you love having them around you, but many parents find that their kid’s toys and artworks and various other paraphernalia can start to take over the house and this can cause stress and anxiety because it is obviously us adults who have to deal with the clear up or live with the mess – the kids just think its a lot of fun to have toys strewn all about the place.

You probably can’t, and shouldn’t, get rid of most of your children’s toys and accessories because they are important for their enjoyment and their development, but what you could do is ensure that you have lots of storage boxes and bins to keep them in and implement a regime whereby the kids put away everything they have used that day in return for some kind of reward – star charts are great for this kind of thing. So, that, although they still have a lot of clutter, it is more organized clutter and thus less likely to cause you a problem.

5. The TV

This isn’t going to be true of everyone, but many people find that having the TV always on display means that it is more likely to be always switched io, and when that is the case, the blaring noise and fast-moving images can be quite intrusive.

If you are someone whose family always switched the TV on no matter what, and if it is causing you stress or preventing you from being able to relax, try having a screen in front of the TV or a closeable cabinet that can hide it away because when it is not always in view, it often stops being used as a background so easily.

6. Mirrors

One study found that people who look regularly in mirrors are likely to be more stressed out about their appearance than people who look into mirrors less frequently. Of course, you are not going to want to get rid of all the mirrors in your home because they can be useful for checking how you look before heading out, not to mention the fact that they are every decorative too but removing them from high-traffic areas such as hallways will mean you spend less time looking in them and less time worrying about your appearance as a result.

7. Colors

Colors can affect our moods both positively and negatively this means that the colors you decorate your home with can have a major effect on how happy or unhappy you feel. Colors like yellow and blue are likely to make you feel more positive while colors like gray, brown, and beige can make you feel sad or melancholy. Of course, if your favorite color is one that is typically thought of as sad, it might not have that effect on you! Choose the colors of your decor wisely.

Every home should be a happy home, so if you have any of these items in your house, and they are making you less than happy, do not be afraid to get rid of them or hide them away in the garage because your happiness and the happiness of your family is what matters most.
