Miserable Workers In Your Office?

Going to work every day can be a bit of an ordeal for some workers. They love the fact they get paid at the end of the month, but they don’t enjoy the rest of the process.

For some individuals, employers can’t do much. You can congratulate, encourage, and cajole, but that’s about it. Work satisfaction is often something internal to the worker themselves, their mindset, and how they think about it.

For others, though, the issue is their external environment. Work isn’t meeting their needs in some way.

While this might sound bad, it’s actually an opportunity. Employers who can get to the bottom of why their employees are so miserable can do something about it.

This post explores some of your options if you have an epidemic of miserable workers in your office. Here’s what you need to know:

Create Career Pathways

Don’t leave workers to their own devices when it comes to their careers. Instead, map out their paths for them.

Remember, most workers aren’t entrepreneurs. They’re just regular people looking for an income for their families. They want their employers to map out a trajectory for them. They don’t want to have to do it themselves.

Offer More Vacation

Offering more vacation sounds like a loss, but it can actually be a gain. Employees who take more time off work have longer to recover from work stints and might be more productive when they return to the office.

Therefore, offer more vacation time. Make sure employees get the rest they need to be at their best.

Provide Support

Working, managing families and dealing with all of life’s ups and downs isn’t easy. Many employees struggle.

Employers should be mindful of this fact. Workers might put on a brave face, but they could be suffering tremendously inside.

Therefore, many companies implement employee assistance programmes. These provide the emotional and psychological help colleagues require when going through tough times.

Make Employees Feel Good About What They Do

Feeling like you’re good at something is a basic human need. Individuals want to be helpful and competent and contribute in some way.

Therefore, make employees feel good about what they do. Build them up instead of tearing them down.

You’ll find that their confidence builds on itself. They might not be particularly adept at what they do right now, but a bit of confidence can make them more accomplished. They relax more, and that has a positive effect on their work.

Make Employees Central To Your Business Objectives

It’s easy for employees to feel surplus to requirements. They know that you can quite easily fire them and replace them with someone new.

However, putting the fear of God into them isn’t effective, and it’s probably making them miserable.

Therefore, change your tack. Rather than viewing workers as a necessary evil, turn them into an integral part of your enterprise. Make them central to your mission and what you want to achieve. Bring them into the big picture and strategy so they can understand their role.
