Tips To Help Ensure A Smooth Labor When Pregnant

Pregnancy has been quite a journey and now as you approach the final stretch, it’s time to think more about the labor. For some, labor is an easy process that they find a lot easier than they thought. Some find it a lot harder and consider it to be one of the most painful experiences of their life.

It’s important to remember that there have been many women before you that have given birth and in some generations, had a lot less to work with when it came to medical equipment and knowledge.

While that’s said, when it comes to labor, the experience can be eye-opening whether it’s the first baby or the last!

With all this being said, here are some helpful tips that can help ensure smooth labor when pregnant.

Have the best birthing partner for you

Firstly, decide on who your birthing partner will be. Ideally, you’ll want it to be your partner but if you’re doing this parenting alone, it may be with a family member or friend. Regardless, the person who is in the room with you when giving birth is going to need to keep their cool during this time.

They’ll need to be available for you to vent, scream, cry and do the iconic crushing of the hand with. The birthing partner is someone who you couldn’t imagine life without, especially when going through what is both a beautiful but traumatic experience on the body. After all, a baby is being pushed or pulled out of the body.

Don’t forget to breathe

Remember, one of the most important but obvious things to do when it comes to labor is to breathe. Tensing the body and not breathing regularly is likely going to stress the body out more and cause even more pain as a result.

There are birthing styles like hypnobirthing that are considered a good option for those who want to drive toward relaxing and spa-like labor. Of course, those two descriptive words don’t always go hand in hand with the realities of labor but it can certainly help to breathe.

Try to labor at home as much as possible

When it comes to labor, it’s worth trying to do as much of the labor period at home as possible. Measuring contractions is important because it’s going to ensure your time getting to the hospital at the right time.

The last thing you want to do is to arrive too early at the hospital and therefore spend a lot of time in the room having to go through labor when it could be done from the comfort of the home.

Of course, it’s hard to know when is the right time to go and it’s important to be in the hands of medical professionals sooner rather than later. However, it’s worth trying to labor as much as possible at home where you can.

Bring some music into the space

Music is a great way of helping to chill and relax the body. Think carefully about what music you use. This could be spa music that can be useful to use in both water births and natural birthing environments. It’s something that could be played just during the initial stages of labor or all of the way through.

The music could also be influential to your breathing and specifically picked to help regulate the breathing.

Keep the body moving and focus on different positions

When it comes to the body, keep it moving. It’s important to move around so that the body continues to get the blood flow to all areas of the body and that the baby is given notice that they need to get out!

Try different positions. It’s often unnatural to lie on your back, though so many people will do so. It’s much better to squat or get down on all fours if possible. Try what works for you and stick to that place when you feel the most comfortable.

Get in touch with legal support should something go wrong

It’s important to get in touch with legal support, should something go wrong during the pregnancy. John Foy and Associates birth injury lawyer can be of service in the case that an injury at birth has taken place. Whether that be yourself or your baby, it’s important to get legal support during this awful time.

A smooth labor is something that all mums-to-be want to happen but that can never be guaranteed. Use these tips to ensure a smooth labor when pregnant.
