I have been with my husband for almost 20 years now and in those years we have lived in three houses. Each house was totally different and we had to make do with what we had and where to put it. Moving from my college apartment to our first house was super easy as everything fit in our cars and my dads trailer attached to his truck. Moving to our third house was a lot harder! We had a 2.5-year-old and a 1-year-old plus it was a 2-story house with bedrooms on the top floor and furniture in the basement as well. We hired movers this time! My husband carried as much as he could to the garage to make it easier and quicker for the movers since we were paying by the hour for movers. It also made it easier to see the stuff slowly clear out the house and actually purge before moving.
As soon as you decide to move, start packing! I packed slowly so I could purge as much as I could before we moved and stay organized. Some people wait until the move and unpack to purge but I found it was easier to pack less and therefore put away less. If you wait until too late then you end up tossing everything in a box and it will be a mess to unpack.
