More traffic can mean more advertising payments and purchases through your affiliate links. The point is too to not just catch a new reader but keep their attention so they come back.

You don’t want to trick people or put up cheap content to attract new customers because they will be a one and done type of reader. You want to engage customers so they want to read more. It is important to share new links but not bombard people or look too desperate as you will end up loosing your regular readers.
