Interesting Facts About Wholesale Candy

With the rise of sugar and mass manufacturing, candy has become one of the most popular sweet treats for people around the world. Here are some interesting facts about wholesale candy.

Not Every Candy Seller Has the Same Inventory

Not all candy is the same, which means different sellers and distributors have different niches and interests. Some candy sellers, particularly small confectioners, specialize in one or a few types of candy while large suppliers may produce many different types. If you’re looking for bulk wholesale candy, look for a distributor that provides the type or types of candy you want.

All Candy Sales Peak Four Times Each Year

Both individual and bulk candy sales peak four times a year, coinciding with major holidays or holiday seasons in the United States. These are the winter holidays, including Christmas, New Year’s Eve and Hanukkah, Halloween, Easter and Valentine’s Day. Purchases around these holidays make up over half of all annual candy sales in the United States. All types of candy sales increase during these times, including seasonal and specialty products.

Some of the First Candy Sellers in the United States Operated in Philadelphia

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is one of the oldest cities in the United States and it’s where many businessmen developed successful candy companies. The earliest documented candy makers in the city include Patrick Wright, a confectioner operating in 1775, and James Marsh, a grocer who sold sweets at his store in 1763. These treats were made with nuts and fruit flavored with spices and sugar. By the mid-nineteenth century, about two hundred confectioners were operating in the city. About one hundred of those specialized in candy making. At this time, Philadelphia’s candy production was well-known throughout the country.

The Industrial Revolution Was Essential To Increasing Candy Production

Without the advent of the Industrial Revolution and mass production, bulk candy would likely be much more difficult to produce and sell. Candy making can be an intensive process, requiring many ingredients, long hours and highly precise techniques. The Industrial Revolution caused improved manufacturing machines and processes, which made producing candy easier and faster. In the modern world, large quantities of all types of candy can be produced and packaged for individual or bulk sale in a single day.

Candy has a rich history, which is still being written. Consumers and companies alike can purchase and enjoy many types of individual candies and bulk candy items.
