I remember shopping for my college dorm like it was yesterday and not 20+ years ago! I bet a lot has not changed though since then, while maybe there might be a few other things you need like phone chargers! My oldest is going to be starting his senior year of high school and honestly he hasn’t decided what he wants to do after high school. My middle child is already talking about going away to school somewhere and he has a few years left in school still.
If you have a child heading off to school here is a list of 5 things to add to their list:
2 sets of sheets – this is important because kids in college hate laundry and its always good to have an extra set of sheets.
Shower caddy – college dorm showers are gross and a caddy is a great way to carry shower products and drain the water so they don’t get moldy.
Hangers and closet organizer – I remember my closet being so small and I had to make due with it. I hung everything I could and had a hanging organizer for shoes and accessories.
Hamper or laundry bag – I had a bag that I could easily carry home because after doing laundry once in my dorm building I was done. It was scary down there and I never felt safe.
Mace or something to protect yourself – While I was lucky and had no issues I did have times I did not feel safe. I took night classes some semesters and walking alone was scary. I read that female students between the ages of 18-24 years old are three times more likely to get sexually assaulted. In Texas, a Houston Sexual Assault Lawyer can help with assault cases and there are lawyers in all states that specialize in cases.
