In the Market for a Murphy Bed Make Sure to Avoid These 5 Mistakes

Murphy beds, for those who do not know, are beds that you can hide by folding them up into walls or into other pieces of furniture, such as cabinets and the like. They are usually considered to be sensible ways to make use of space, especially for individuals living in condos or small apartments who do not have a lot of it to spare. You can simply fold your Murphy bed up into a wall or someplace similar, and you will instantly have more room to move around or entertain.

Efficient Murphy beds are available and reasonably priced, but before you get one, you should be aware of a few common mistakes to avoid.

Make Sure You Get One That Is the Right Size

Obviously, the size of any bed matters, but that is even more the case with Murphy beds. They might fold up and be out of the way, but what about how much space they take up when they are down?

Look at the measurements of any Murphy bed you are considering and compare them to those of the space you want the bed to occupy. If the model you’re looking at is too small, you’ll need to investigate some other options.

Don’t Overpay

You should also think about how much money you’re willing to spend on your new Murphy bed. Like any purchase, you probably have a high end in terms of what you’re willing to pay.

Consider your bank account carefully. You can always finance a Murphy bed in many instances, but maybe you’d prefer to wait until you can pay for it outright before you move forward and buy one.

Look at the Warranty Before You Commit

With a purchase like this, the warranty length and terms certainly matter as well. Some Murphy beds will come with a three-month warranty. With others, you might get six or twelve. You may even be able to do better than that with some companies.

You can also double the warranty if you pay with certain credit cards, like the Amex Platinum. That might make this kind of purchase a much more attractive prospect in case anything goes wrong with the bed a few months down the line.

Look at the Company’s Reputation Before Buying

Like any purchase, you’ll want to learn at least a little about the company you’re buying from before you pull the trigger. If you have never heard of the manufacturer before, look into their reputation online. A simple Google search can typically reveal a lot about what the general public thinks concerning this particular company and its products.

Consider Getting an American-Made Product

You may also want to consider getting a Murphy bed that is made by an American company. Nothing says that an overseas company can’t make a quality Murphy bed, but the directions for use may not be in English. The customer service department might also not speak English as a first language if you ever need to communicate with them.
