I am a closet celebrity stalker. Ok I am not that bad, but it can sometimes be a like a drug that I need a fix for! I yearn for People, Entertainment Weekly, Star, National Enquirer, You Tube, and I hate to say it but yes I read Perez Hilton. No I don’t subscribe to any of the above magazines, but my mom and grandma does and she passes them on to me. (Does it make me sound worse that I bought my grandma the Star / National Enquirer subscription for Christmas because I knew that she would save them for me?)
So before I go further, let me explain Perez Hilton in case you don’t know who that is. Well he is a….very…..eccentric guy who loves everything and anything celebrity. He writes a blog and actually has been on tv doing interviews of stars. His blog is funny and everyday I just skim it to get the lastest gossip. Perez refers to himself as “Queen of all Media.” Before you check his blog out though I have to warn you that it is not really for kids and when you look you will see what I mean. But his site is funny and can sometimes be mean, but hey all publicity is good publicity isn’t it?
So my obsession started with my mother. She is a Non-Fiction freak, mainly biographies about celebs and true crime. She would get tons of magazines, but People was her favorite. Now I know People is not a trashy mag but still it is celebrity gossip and real life drama. I remember trying to get the mail before my mom so I could read it first as it was and is such a quick and easy read. Then I would read the trashy junk magazines even though I knew most of the stuff wasn’t true and was photoshopped, but then again I would think “What if it is real?” What if Oprah really is that fat or John Mayer really did cheat on Jennifer Anniston.
Now I read other magazines, but since hand me downs from my grandma and mom it seems like these magazines are everywhere and I cannot bear not to read an issue. So I read knowing that I am absorbing useless knowledge and trash about someone I don’t know and probably did need to know about. By reading though it makes me think that my life drama is not as bad as everyone else’s. Actually my life is pretty boring…..but you know what I prefer it this way!
Okay and before you ask I don’t know everything about celebs as I can’t stand most of the reality tv shows, but if it is online or in a book / magazine then I will read it. I love flipping through those pages and continuing on to Pg. 112 to finish an article that I couldn’t believe was not important enough that the end was moved to the back of the magazine. Anyways though on the outside I am a normal everyday mom, but inside I just need my celeb fix , maybe because it keeps life interesting.
