My baby loves to play with her food at every meal. Is that normal?
by: Barbara Greenspan, OT Occupational Therapist
Feeding time is a great time for babies to learn! They learn about different textures and cause and effect all while developing the small muscles in the hand.
In fact, we recommend you give them opportunities at other times to make a mess, too.
For example, use foamy soap during bathing, let them grab and squish play-dough, keep them active with building & stacking toys and let them play in a sandbox or splash in a water table.
And there are lots of arts and crafts to play with, as well.
Give their hands and bodies lots of “tactile” input to help them learn!
