In my quest to cut costs and eat healthier, about one year ago I started making my own homemade maple syrup!
Now don’t get me wrong…I’m not saying that maple syrup is healthy! 🙂 However, I do like that this recipe uses real sugar as opposed to High Fructose Corn Syrup.
This recipe makes a light tasting syrup, that is delicious served warm over pancakes, french toast, waffles, etc.
If you haven’t made homemade maple syrup before, it’s truly a cinch!
Homemade Maple Syrup
1 Cup Water
1 Cup Sugar
1 tsp. Maple Extract or Mapleine Imitation Flavoring
*Bring water and sugar to slow boil over low heat, stirring continually.
*Remove from heat before it comes to a rolling boil.
*Stir in maple extract as it is cooling.
*Serve warm.
The best part? It costs approximately 20 cents to make! 🙂
Since syrup doesn’t seem to last too long around here, I like to triple this recipe and store the leftovers in the fridge. If you haven’t tried making your own syrup yet, I highly encourage you to try. It’s simple, thrifty, and really delicious!

Does anyone know how long it will last? Does it even go bad?
Wow! I never thought of making my own syrup.
I'm a pure maple syrup gal myself. My husband says "it tastes like a tree" and I say "I know, it tastes real!"
I should try this and get him of the HFCS. I've switched our ketchup and chocolate syrup already. I have my natural soda and I fight to get him to slow down and drink the same. :)
This sounds great! I will definately have to try this some time.
I'll have to try this - may even try it with Splenda or Truvia instead of sugar so I have a Sugar Free version. (need to watch those extra calories ya know)
