SodaStream Review: Yummy Homemade Soda!

Some people are alcoholics, some gamblers, some cigarette smokers, well I am a soda-aholic. Soda is my one luxury, and I don’t skimp on it. I have tried store brands before, but they don’t cut it. I am actually a “Coca-Cola” addict, but there are a few other flavors I don’t mind every know and then. My husband actually makes fun of my Coke addiction and doesn’t understand it, but it is what makes me happy and I can’t live without it.

Now even though I usually only buy soda when I can get a really good price and then I really stock up and go nuts, money is still tight. So when I heard about SodaStream, I knew it was something I had to have. Just the idea of making soda at home and finding just the right recipe sounded amazing to me. And now I am actually hooked on the SodaStream and can’t imagine going back to buying regular soda!

SodaStream is a drink maker that allows you to turn ordinary tap water into soda and sparkling flavored water in seconds. First fill the SodaStream bottle with water, place it in the Drinks Maker and push a button to carbonate it, add syrup or flavoring, and enjoy!

SodaStream Features:

• No heavy bottles or cans to carry, store, or throw away.

• Choose from over 20 flavors! Including diet and Caffeine-free.

• Portable and lightweight, but still strong and durable!

• Does not need batteries or electricity. It runs on CO2 Carbonator.

SodaStream has been around since 1991, with over 8 million drinks makers sold in more than 30 countries around the world. It is not a membership club, you can just buy the as you want and some of your favorite stores carry it, such as Kohls and Amazon. I highly recommend this for any soda lover, as it is fun and family friendly! SodaStream also recommends its use in an RV or boat since it operates without batteries, electricity or plumbing.

Being able to customize how much syrup I use, which flavor I use, and how much carbonation I want, we have really played around with the SodaStream and found some great combinations and recipes. It is also nice for families who have different soda preferences, as each family member can make their own and store it in the fridge! Oh and since there really is no waste and the bottles are recyclable, it is a very green eco-friendly product!

You may think this is a waste of money or that the cost of using will be expensive, but it really isn’t. Once you get the SodaStream machine, and I have seen it at Kohl’s for $80, you just have to buy the syrups for about $4, then the carbonator is about $25. A flavored syrup makes the equivalent of (33) 12oz. cans. A household of four soda drinkers might need to replace a 130-liter carbonator every 3-4 months, and a 60-liter carbonator every 6-8 weeks, depending on usage. After initial purchase of the soda maker package, it will only cost you $0.20 per liter and flavored sodas for as little as $0.57 per liter. Now compare that to what you pay for cases and bottles of soda, especially if you have bottle deposit fees.
