Guest Post from Jaime @ Suburban Saving Mama

In honor of National Breastfeeding Awareness Month, I thought this would be the perfect weekend to attempt to make my own homemade nursing cover. With leftover fabric, I was able to “successfully” save tons of money and create a rather unique cover to use while breastfeeding discreetly in front of others. From my careless mistakes and amateur attempt, it obvious that this is a project that anyone can tackle!

First you need the following things:

Fabric: length is personal preference, mine was about one yard all the way around
Thread
Strap (could be made out of the fabric as well)
Corset boning
Sewing machine

Because my fabric was rather thick and heavy, I opted to just hem all the sides. If you want to make it look really clean, you can get a lighter fabric and then sew it back to back and flip it outside out (I will definitely be doing this next time).

1. Either hem or serge all the sides or sew your fabric together.

2. Make sure to pin your corset boning in the top section with the loop facing the right direction and get the straps ready. Again this is personal preference how long you want the strap to be. You can use a ‘d ring’ if you would like to make it adjustable.

3. Optional: add a pocket to the inside or outside to place your nursing pads or washcloth. I was planning on doing this with the white fabric but ended up messing up and making one side longer than the other. To modify, I folded that end in to make it even and made them into three individual pockets on the inside (refer to bottom picture).
