Carson-Dellosa Publishing Board Games Review: Love them!

Aidan will be 3 years old next month and he is already getting interested in board games. I think it is because he absolutely loves puzzles and a lot of the board games for younger kids are matching or designed to use visual cues to complete. He does not understand rules at all and taking turns is not his favorite either, but I know eventually he will get it, so we keep trying.

I received two board games from Carson-Dellosa Publishing and I am impressed. I never heard of them before but they have tons of games and books all designed to “Educate, Motivate, and Decorate.” I love too how they say on their Facebook page “Inspiring teachers, parents, and students for over 30 years.” So I think they are definitely doing something right if they have stayed in business this long and the company was even started by two teachers who were looking for educational products to enhance their own classrooms at an affordable price.

The first game I received is “Where Do I Live?” It is an adorable game where you match the animal with their habitat through large, chunky pieces perfect for little hands. There are twelve homes and corresponding animals, which are perfect for kids to learn to identify and learn. It requires no reading, which makes it perfect for Ages 4 and up. Aidan loves this game, he immediately knew a few but since has learned more. I think this is great for any child who is learning about animals or to teach them about how others live. Even my younger son watches and I am just waiting for him to join in! It is simple and cute! “Where Do I Live” also won the 2009 Parents Choice Award, 2009 Creative Child Preferred Choice Award and the 2009 Dr. Toy Award. This game retails for $14.99.

The second game I received is Colors & Shapes Robot Race. This game is two games in one as you just flip it over to the other side and once you open it up, it is huge at 39 x 27 inches. This game is designed to teach colors and shapes through a robot theme. I love that it is laminated for durability and designed for both indoor and outdoor play. Each game offers two different levels of game play, meant for 2-4 players, and comes with a spinner, four playing pieces, and 45 game cards. When I first opened this up, Aidan’s face lit up because he was so excited! He doesn’t understand the game yet, but he tries. Right now I am using it to teach him shapes and colors, but soon I am sure he will get the hang of learning how to move forward the number of spaces after you spin. I think it is great because it is two games and has a lot to do. This game has won the 2009 r. Toy Award and retails for $24.99.

Overall, I think the Carson-Dellosa Publishing Products would be a great for any child or classroom. I can especially see it being a great resource for homeschoolers! The prices all seem reasonable and I can’t help but be impressed with all the awards they have received on numerous products. The website is also organized so it makes it easy to shop for the subject and age you need. If you are a teacher though, good luck as there is so much to look through that would be perfect in the classroom!
