Aidan is going to be 3 in January and since he is an expert on my iPod Touch and loves technology, we are thinking of getting him his own computer. I know it sounds crazy to buy a computer for a 3 year old, but it definitely will not be fancy and since there are so many awesome sales right now, hopefully I can find something!
Now to go along with his computer I have been looking for games and websites I to show him. Back when I was younger, computer games on disks were the “in” thing, but now everything is online, which is actually nice because there is no discs to loose, you can play without a disc, and there is so much more to offer online because of updates. Jumpstart has introduced its award-winning (and they have earned lots of awards!) adventure based 3D virtual world. You get to personalize it yourself and explore, and best of all it teaches math, reading, and critical thinking skills! It is also in a safe environment that has been trusted by over 30 million parents.
When I first loaded Jumpstart for Aidan he was excited. It is so bright and there really is so much to explore. He actually sat on my lap for about 45 minutes and watched me navigate through the Jumpstart world. There are endless adventures and mysteries to solve so your child will not get bored and within the game there are decisions to make and mini games to test your child.
The first area within the game is called StoryLand which is aimed at 3-5 year olds. For kindergarteners through 2nd grade there is Adventureland and for 3rd-5th grade there is FutureLand. For the underwater lovers there is also MarineLand.
Overall, I think this game is adorable and for computer savvy kids I think it would be extremely fun and beneficial. Aidan being just under 3 years old didn’t quite grasp the game concept yet and was shy about moving around in the game. I think this game would be awesome too for families who have children that are different ages because they would all benefit from it, although they may fight for computer time! I found that it was extremely easy to navigate by just moving the mouse around and clicking and when you hover over a place it tells you the name of the building. I liked that the Interactive Map let you see the entire world and you could go immediately to the destination you want. The only problem we did have is that there is a lot of loading when you want to do things and that takes a few seconds and I did have one error where I had to log out and log back in.
Other than the Jumpstart Virtual World, there are also two Wii games that are available and look fun and of course there are the classic Jumpstart computer software titles. You can check them all out all Amazon. The JumpStart Learning System games are internationally renowned and have received over 500 awards!
